I would check for air leaks. Under load the vacuum increases and may allow more air to get suck in from any leaks. Run a vacuum test on it if you can...or I could be way off!! :confused:
you can also apply heat to the flywheel. the aluminum will expand faster than steel. use a pencil torch if you have one...don't use an insane amount of heat either...doesn't need to be "red hot". that may cause the flywheel to warp.
My money is on an incorrectly adjusted carb...it seems odd that it will start with lots of effort, but is still does eventually start...could also be operator error. LOL
In my experience, painting a muffler looks good for a few hard uses, but then begins to fade/chip rather quickly. I prefer to blast them and let the patina protect them.
I just recently moved to Virginia and was driving by the Lynnhaven Mall and saw what I thought were the gates of heaven...I will be visiting VERY soon!!! (sorry the pic is so fuzzy, but I was driving)
