    Boots

    had a pair of the arctic chippewas for about 4 years. they dont have the tall hell on the back and are lined..wear em year round. of course i stay in a cab more than on the ground. wear like tennis shoes. the liners wear out around your heel after about 2 years, and the bottoms go slick after...

    Need a new loader

    If your cutting down with a chainsaw id say buy a 873 or 973 bobcat. If you have big pockets get a s300 high flow machine. Buy a log grapple and a acumulating shear head. Now you can load most tandem trucks and cut that pesky pulp wood in neat piles. If you have a buncher then and a grapple...

    Meeting a forester/logger tomorrow - what should I ask him?

    i think you have unrealistic expectations on what a "logging job" really is. be prepared to be sorely disappointed when you do get it cut, b/c landscapers make state parks look like that, loggers get the wood and it makes a mess, then we do just enough to keep the land owner from bad mouthing...

    I Have My Heart Set On Logging

    been where you are buddy. if you really wanna get into it then you have a long way to go. you cant just decide you want to log one night and go to work the next morning. the sad part is most upstarts end up with dangerous old wore out junk in an already dangerous work setting. saw felling is...

    Skidder rebuild, { warning graphic pictures}

    sounds about right, 15000 feet is about equal to 75 tons or 3 truck loads right? if you had a grapple skidder it would drag around 35000 feet in a day :hmm3grin2orange: where did you find a 219 hp cummins small enough to jam in a 240? i thought the biggest 6bt you could get was 200hp

    Logging pride

    I take offense to that my good sir!! I have you know that us easterners arent all above walking and limbing a log at the same time. All you ppl think your the cats meow with your yarders and rigging crews. come on down here and drag a cable down the hill, set it, run back up the hill jump on the...

    Home made logging tools and other innovations

    idk if this is any use to anyone, but back in the day when we cut with a saw we use a 25 foot homemade pike pole to fall trees with. 2 and a half inch scedule 40 pvc pipe with a frog gig on the end. two guys. one runs the saw and the other pushes the pike pole to guide the tree in the right...

    Skidder rebuild, { warning graphic pictures}

    limited slip front end, rear end has a hydraulic locker........and its a power shift, so put it in second gear and go. they will mountain pretty good with a nice set of tires, put chains on them and you can climb a wall with 3 big red oaks with the tops in them still. Plus they are great on...

    Skidder rebuild, { warning graphic pictures}

    that is gonna be one jam up little 240 when your done. I have to say if there was any kind of cable skidder i would run (which there isn't, us flat landers run grapple skidders) that would be it. I have only ran a 240 for about 3 hours and most of that was spent on the ground setting...

    New MS440 - Feast Your Eyes!!!

    where are you guys finding these things? Id buy two right now if i could get them. b/c we all know the 460 is too heavy and the 441 has too much emission junk, plus its as heavy as the 460. Pm me if you can know where one is, or can get one, or two, or three

    Stihl MS440 oil and gas caps

    Id say that the insides on that saw are bone stock and havent been messed with, they discontinued the the screw type 044 tank a long while back. fortunately the only difference between a 044 and ms440 is the gas tank caps (and some older 044s have a 10mm crankshaft where the later have a 12mm)...

    Need 044 piston & cylinder

    i think finding a aftermarket piston for a 10mm will be a toughy. probably cheaper just to change the crank out

    best way to remove carbon

    best way to remove carbon

    i use a striaght razor to pry the big stuff loose, then a crankshaft brush on the ports and brass wire brush on pistons (if you use brass it will clean as good as steel, but it will break before it hurts the aluminum parts
