Would these tall trees beside my house concern you?

If you cut all the trees near a house down because they might fall under some set of circumstances, how is one supposed to have their house shaded by trees? The idea of creating or pre-determining liability by sending someone a letter stating that if something happens then they are responsible...

    saw cleaning question

Air compressor and a scraper 99% of the time. Slightly diluted Simple Green in a spray bottle, a brush, a hose, and then the air compressor for the other 1% of instances I am cleaning a saw.

    Cool Little Saws

Those events were fun. I still have a bunch of pictures somewhere on a thumb drive or CD-ROM from those GTGs. They used to be hosted on Photobucket, but it stopped hosting them a long time ago. If I find them, I might re-post some on here! I can't completely say I regret selling the 075 and...

    Cool Little Saws

This is more or less a "help me spend my money on things I don't really need" sort of thread. So here we go... I spent some time this past weekend with my Husqvarna 238se cutting up 0-16" diameter storm damaged sugar maple. The little 238se is probably my favorite saw of all I've ever owned...

    Help deciding on Stihl Saw

That’s a shame. That saw with heat would be really neat. 562xpg would be the next best alternative then. I’ve really enjoyed the time I have had on the 572. It feels solid and is really the only saw I would like to add to the stable. It weighs more than the 400, of source, but it feels good...

    Help deciding on Stihl Saw

That analysis isn’t always true, though, or we would all run the biggest and most powerful saw in order to get done “faster.” But we don’t. I’ve run those two side by side. They are different creatures. I wouldn’t want a 500i as my only saw or primary saw, but could do OK with a 400 in...

    Help deciding on Stihl Saw

I really like the 400 and think it is the saw you want. Lighter and more nimble is a good thing. It makes plenty of power. Can you get it with heated handles there? That might be a consideration.

Bar & Chain selection for Husqvarna 550 XP

Thanks for the follow-up!! Also a fan of Oregon 325 chisel on a NK bar. It works just fine for me, also!

    Clearing Weeds and Light Brush

SRM-260 and the 8" chisel tooth blade (here, one from Stihl: https://www.stihlusa.com/products/trimmers-and-brushcutters/trimmer-heads-and-blades/circularchisel/) will do fine on that and it is easy to sharpen yourself. I have an SRM-260 I converted to a PAS and run that particular blade on it...

    New 40cc saw guidance

I’ve been really happy with the 543xp. It handles like a 242xp did, which is not something the 346xp, 261, or 550 MK2 can say. The frequent refrain to “just get a 261” or 550 seems to disregard the handling issue. They don’t handle the same and if you want that small chassis nimble feel, 543xp...

    Help choosing a between a 362 CM 400 CM or a 550 or... ?

    400. 16” bar for short bar tasks, 24” for larger diameter tasks.

    Light weight durable saw

Short bar fan here. Having a 15-16” bar for that 590 will make it much more nimble for times you don’t need more bar. Chains are faster to sharpen, too, when the bar is shorter! Run a 16” on my 625 with ported 272 top end. A lightsaber for blocking firewood! 40-50cc all wear 13”, except the...

    New saw advice.

400/18” would be great for that work.

    Black Walnut trees for removal

These trees sound interesting and potentially useful to the right person, and I’m sure some cool stuff could be made out of them. Just gotta find a way to connect with that person. I know I have cut up and burned lots of stuff over the years that could have been something beautiful. It still...

    Black Walnut trees for removal

+1 Probably the most common tree question that folks ask is how to trade their valuable trees for free labor. Gotta love the optimism.

    Husqvarna 2101 & 266 Value

Clean runners are probably $450 and $275 respectively. More for pristine, less for ugly. Parts availability is becoming a real issue for these, so the market is shifting to hobbyists more than working saw men, which both are working against high prices for non-NOS-looking examples.

    Small saws for small trees

It’s a rebadged Japanese design that Husqvarna gained in their corporate acquisitions. Which for some folks is a positive, others a negative. Mine is ported and I’ve never run a stock one, but in its current form it is like a modern 242xp with more grunt. Throttle response and powerband are...

    Small saws for small trees

No problem at all with that. Small saws get a bad rap with a lot of folks because they put too much bar on them and then they perform like crap. 12-14” bar, sharp chain, and treat the saw like a scalpel in the way you approach your felling and cutting. 543xp + 13” bar does 90% of my...

    Husqvarna 40-50cc saws

Yes. Got 260, 280, and 410, all of which are built solid and have been great performers. 260 and 410 run blades, 280 is set up as an edger.

    Ain't this bucking fun?

Looks great! I’d be down to spend some time cutting that stuff!
