    Rope Storage

packability burtim brings up a good point about the actual need to haul your gear a distance. Why not just buy a regular backpack? Countless sizes and styles to choose from. I have a day pack I use. It holds a 120' & 50' hanks of rope, 2 leather sleaves and a helmet. The daisy chain that...

    Cutting around uncoated power....

I did line clearence for 6 years. So my suggestion is to either get in touch with whomever does that near you, and see if they'll give you some training. Or, if getting tingled really bothers you, maybe you could subcontract the job to a climber who's line clearance certified. Some other...

Spot to Rec climb around pittsburgh

I'm a rec. Climb Facilatator here in PA. I checked with the Dep. Of Forestry a few years ago about rec. Climbing on stste land. The word straight from Harrisburg is that you may climb in any state forrest or state gameland as long as no har is done to the trees. Use your rope sleeves and...

    Line Clearance in the rain

Our company did line clearance for 10 years, till Dec. Of '09. We always worked in the rain. One time we had 3" come down during the work day. Kept on goin. We were told by PPL that our only restriction was on working if it was lightening. The individual crews could call it off if we wanted...

    Big Orange screws up!

lxt,...the company I work for did PPL ROW for 10 years. I was always told that ultimately the HO could refuse to have anything trimmed that was on their turf. The utulity co. would put the squeze on them, but in the end if Harry Homeowner said no way, then we left it be. Of course we often...

    Redwoods,climbing and laws?

With all do respect.... I am so sick and tired of the greenies blamming every environmental woe on mankind. I know I'm hitting the hornets nest here but tough. Climb the tree, have lunch in it while you're up there, take a nap, play a tune on your flute,...you get the idea. But enough of...

    Redwoods,climbing and laws?

Sshh... If you want to go up, then go up. Think commando climb. Don't ask, don't tell. I only say go ahead because you're not too concerned about the legality of it. It's no different than when doing a ninja climb on a locally posted/city/state owned tree. Just don't do anything to hurt...

Rec Climbing on Rock Climbing Harness?

Don't go cheap. Do yourself a HUGE favor and plunk down the $ for a New Tribe saddle. You can't beat them for comfort. I understand that sometimes you have to watch your cash flow, but trust me on this one. I climbed recreationaly for 3 years with my wide back work saddle. It worked fine...

    Anyone climb with a Camelbak?

I use a camelbak during the summer months. I have a 100 oz. Mule that's great for it's capacity and storage for snacks or whatever. As far as keeping the creepy crawlies at bay, I rinse mine out with some mouth wash. Kills germs and leaves your breath minty fresh. ;)

    Tunes

I don't do that. But I do keep an inexpensive harmonica in my line mug so I can do a blues riff or two on occasion. Check ouut my handy work on you tube, under "Tree needs a climbin". Enjoy.

    spurs hurting feet big time

One or the other I used to work with a guy who gave me a good piece of advice once. We were talking about our boots and he said you should always buy the best boots and mattress you can afford. Because if you're not on one you're on the other. Made sense to me.

QKA Lake My wife and I have a lake side cottage in Keuka Lake, NY that we go to often. Awsome tree climbing there. Huge/ mature red oaks, chestnut oaks, cottonwoods, sycamores... It's on the East bluff, South of PennYan. Just beautiful. Plus the fishing is quite good. If you go, you have...

    Black Walnut Disease

Walnut injections. What are they injecting? I read about this disease recently with great interrest. I have a 90+ year old black walnut that I use for my tree climbing school, and would hate to see this beauty die the death if it could be prevented. I did a thorough inspection of it...

    Selling Black Walnuts: How to...

Try this. Let the lad set up a roadside type stand & see what happens. Also,... check with the local health food store. They might want some for anyone doing the candida diet. Part of this is that you take 3 or 4 entire black walnuts, (husks on), and soak them in a quart jar filled with...

    Tree ID

I think so The fruit & leaves look to be persimmon. The bark patern looks like it also, but perhaps a tad too smooth. Although this could be due to natural variation or the apparently young age of the tree. Hope this helps. Ron

I'm not in the hospital right now...

PPE fan Good choice on the PPE use. As a former saftey committee member, it boggles my mind how many guys not only won't wear it, but they make fun of the "girlie boys" who do. I know of a few of these guys who have even been needlessly cut due to their own idiocy. I've also seen a couple of...

    Best Nails for Trees?

Post it. I like the term Citiot. Here in North Central PA we call them Flatlanders. They're the white collar types that come up from the Lancaster area and other places in the south of the state. They're the only ones who can afford the evr rising realestate prices for the good land plots...

This one had me squirmin in my seat. eye yi yi yi yi... I don't know what these lads make/hr. but they earn it. Free climbing...no sir. I'd be too concerned with my hands cramping up and ......well, I'll keep to the trees.

    Bandit XP 90 Problem-Please Help

In addition to the issues with blade sharpness, rpm's, etc., the leaf cloging may also be due to them being wet. The company I used to work for used mostly Bandits, but also Morbarks, and Vermeers and in the spring/ rainy season, they all clogged with leaves. Some more than others, but all of...
