Really depends on the task at hand. When I was racing motocross in the 125cc class, it was ALL about horsepower. Pulling a load up hill is ALL about torque. Depends on the task, and sawing wood has a similar range of applicability IMHO. Of course there's also torque WITH revs, like my old...

24" Sugi on mine a lot, other times a 20" and 8-pin sprocket.

My 441R-CM has been the best saw I've ever had.

    M-tronic/Autotune bologna??

You are welcome. My 441R C-M has become by far my favorite saw and the only one I even run much. If you really want to be correct, the best way to calibrate is by doing just what I said, after removing the bar/chain (and replacing the cover for safety). The saw will sit there and do some...

    M-tronic/Autotune bologna??

What the dealer probably was talking about is a calibration run. You put the switch to the fully down "cold start" position, start the saw and let it idle without touching the throttle. Let it idle for 90 seconds or so, then, again without touching the throttle, quickly switch it to "off"...

    Stihl MS-441CM or MS-461 ?

Thanks Eric, I that 24" Sugi was brand new in that pic and I had spent a lot of time cleaning up the saw when I was putting the new bar on. I'm sure a ported 461 would hand mine it's arse, but I still prefer the perks the 441 offers, such as spring av, awesome air filtration, and the ease of...

    Stihl MS-441CM or MS-461 ?

My ported 441R C-M is definitely my go to saw. With a 20" I run an 8 pin in any wood (could pull more in softer stuff, so I get to really crank on it). Most of the time I run a 24" Sugi, and either 7 or 8 pin depending on the wood and/or my mood. I usually go 7 pin on 28", but seldom use it...

I paid $90 for my 28" Sugi, and about the same for my 24" Sugi.

I know ST, I was just, ahem, pulling your chain. Exactly, on all points.

Unless you consider the .08 to .13 of metal, times the number of drive links, in total weight savings on the spinning chain. Surely could be a factor in limbing and cookie cutting. :innocent:

24" Bar comparison - stihl cannon tsumura sugihara

Well, that could pose a health problem for me if that includes my YZ250 - that thing is a maniac. I have had racing 2-strokes since the mid 1970's, and I've never, ever ridden one as fast as this one (including a CR500R I used to ride).

Complete nonsense, but partial throttle cutting is not a good idea in general given the extremely modest capabilities of any chainsaw carb.

24" Bar comparison - stihl cannon tsumura sugihara

Not sure what they mean? Surely they aren't recommending cutting at partial throttle? Mine runs smooth yet "mean" - definitely has attitude, yet is the easiest starting saw I have ever run, hot or cold. Idles perfectly too. Never had more confidence in a chainsaw. Responds as well with the...

I got this 24" Sugi from a shop in Indiana last month. I have their name at work, I'll look it up tomorrow and get back to ya'. It is the PERFECT all purpose setup for my ported 441 M-Tronic. That thing is such a great saw, so comfortable, strong and easy to "live with" (always in tune...
