Why was the Little Homelite XL such a beast?

I love these saws! I started off with 1 XL2 like in the pic above. Rebuilt the carb with new lines and duck bill valves. Put a new 14" bar and Stihl 3/8 Pico chisel and it really runs well. The XL2 is nice since it has the 2 triggers. The front one allows it to be run like a top handle and the...

    A new hotrod is born

I did a little digging and found the 440 and 460 have the same stroke, 36mm. So what's the benefit of swapping a 460 top end onto the 440? On the surface you'll end up with the same displacement as a stock 460. Does the 440 have a different length rod or is it a lighter chassis?

    A new hotrod is born

Brad, I'm assuming you can do the same with an 044 / 460, correct? Thanks

    Ms200 intake boot

The Stihl boots are expensive, but the only option as far as I'm concerned. I bought a few of the aftermarket ones to evaluate recently and don't like them at all. The accordion section is solid which won't allow for any movement with the top handle. With the cold weather they get hard as a rock...

    Ms200 intake boot

If it seals for you this way then you're fine to check the engine assembly.

No real reason. Either is fine.

    Ms200 intake boot

From the picture your 2 AV mounts look OK. Check the 3rd ( the one mounted to the tank) and give them a tug to make sure they aren't torn. Check to make sure the 4 screws holding the muffler together are tight. They have a way of loosening over time.

    Ms200 intake boot

I do over 30 200Ts a year and this is one of the most common areas for an air leak. Don't use sealant, teflon tape or anything along those lines. Get yourself a NEW Stihl intake boot P/N 1129 141 2200. The old ones degrade over time do to heat, vibration and contact with fuel. Just remember to...

    Aftermarket MS200T carbs

I tried a few of the Chinese carbs on a strong running 200T and it didn't run well. Put the Zama back on and it ran great. They run like they have an air leak. I'm going to bush the throttle shaft and see what the results are. It's a PIA to have to go through this, but I'm curious to know what...

    Aftermarket MS200T carbs

Just by comparing the photos everyone selling these has they certainly look similar.

    Aftermarket MS200T carbs

I bought 6 of these and tried 2 so far and they run very poorly. Like I said I swap out a new Zama and the saw runs perfect. I've been running the Zamas and Walbros for years. I've had good success with rebuilding or deleting the accelerator pumps, but if I can find a aftermarket that works I'd...
