    Firewood Seasoning

Around here, soft maple (silver maple, and red maple) is plentiful, and makes great kindling. Not too much cedar around this area, unless you count the juniper cedar (which isn't really a cedar). Though it makes good kindling too but can be pretty knotty due to the shrub branching.

Eliminating dust cover on DHT 25 ton splitter hydraulic fluid filter

Yeah, don't use that original filters 'dust cover'. I threw mine out with the original filter. (It looked as though it was both the filter seal/o-ring, and a dust cover, anyway.) Did you stack that on top of your new Purolator lube filters o-ring? If so, unscrew your new filter and get it...

    When to change hydraulic oil?

I have a DHT splitter. I think I changed only the hydraulic filter after about 4 years of use. Split about 4 cord a year. Never when it's over 70*F , or so, outside. Fluid looks like new. It's plenty good, as far as I'm concerned. The splitter stays under a lean-to when not in use. I plan...

    Splitting pine..never again

Yes, I noticed this also, and do the same when I run across easy to get/process pine.

How do I kill a tree without cutting it down?

    Good catch. https://naumainz.studyinnewzealand.govt.nz/help-and-advice/laws-and-government/new-zealand-drug-laws//

    Craigslist laughs

Yeah. It might be a good deal if there wasn't a tree or shrub in sight for many miles. It would fire the wok a few times for cooking meals.

    Are they gonners?

Yeah, that's unfortunate, Iowawoodguy. But, as Del_ said, it will probably re-sprout. In my experience, I found that a cylinder of small-hole fencing put around the sapling greatly reduces the rabbit issues. I use 2 ft high fencing, making the cyl dia about 1 to 2 ft. You may have to use...

Do You Wear Full PPE When You Cut?

For me: eye and ear protection. Chaps always on when cutting with a saw. Steel-toe shoes. I also wear thin gloves, but just for comfort and handling reasons. I rarely fell trees, but when I do, I put on the hardhat too.

    Black Walnut harvesting methods

Nice setup. I'll tell you what I use. I didn't gather or process any last year, but did the two years prior. First year of it I filled two 1-quart ziplock bags with nutmeat. The second year only about 1 quart. I try to gather the nuts, freshly fallen. I like to avoid overly-black decaying...

    Splitter Return Stop

https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/dht-stroke-reducer.281762/ I copied the one that DHT never released and sold. Admittingly I did have to weld a few things in my build. Glad I made it though, for the same reason you say you want a limit stop.

Them weird clumps in the stove ?

Yes. And just as many other posted, mostly shows up from burning Elm.

A Drolet Tundra an white oak

Hmm. I assumed it has something to do with spices. On topic.. I am currently using/burning 4 year seasoned Red Oak. I'm glad I left a number of big splits. (about 25% of the cord worth). Come to think of it, I usually leave at least 25% big splits, no matter the species, as I...

    Wood stove rope door gasket

Also going on 10 years factory/original gasket on my Regency I3100. The gasket is still in pretty good shape, and seals as it should. I'll try to go factory replacement, when I need to.

    Weird wood

I've run across that also, from time to time. Usually it's a soft maple (Red or Silver Maple around here).

    Craigslist laughs

Still not worth it... even if it came with the hand-truck.

wow just got a reply on craigs list for truck load of locus

I've burned a fair bit of well seasoned honey locust. Love that stuff as firewood. I've never come across to burning much of any black locust though (I mostly scrounge for wood). As mentioned, the honey locust has the nasty longer thorn clusters, mainly around the trunk and branch offshoots...

The white and orange one looks like it would fit my cs520.

    Unbelievable wood find

MontanaResident, are you in a region where the utility company just cuts and leaves wood for 'whoever to take' on their right-of-way land? I've heard of this, but it typically doesn't work that way around here.

    Never argue with an idiot

Sometimes it's fun to argue with drunks. Just make sure they aren't the 'mean drunk' kind. Those type are out of their mind.

    Best value in chainsaw files

Haha. Are you sure it isn't the fumes in the store that cause the pains? Also, thanks for the info on files. I have some older Oregon files yet. I'll stay away from the new ones.
