    FIL's mccullough 610

Old, loud, heavy, uses a lot of gas. I have 2 - dad's (rest his soul) old 655 thin ring w/ decomp valve, and a freebie 610 with Montgomery Wards labeling. Other than the oil pump & occasional coil they're pretty reliable. Parts are available on Ebay or I get mine from here: Fayettville...

    Shindaiwa 488

Depending on when it was made it may or may not have a carb adjustment for high speed. But if yours is running rich it may have a fully adjustable carb already. And Kyle over at Edge and Engine can fix you up with a flocked filter instead of the fine screen one. BTW - I run an 18" bar on my...

What happens when you switch gas and oil?

I had the oil cap come off & my leg got a soaking in bar oil.

    Marvel Mystery Oil

Yup, 50/50 mix of ATF & acetone for a penetrating oil. For you shooters, I use MMO as a substitute for kerosene when I mix Ed's Red cleaner. My wife would shoot ME if I used kero in the house.

Question for Forum members with late model Toyotas

Well, my wife's Venza still has a shifter on the automatic transmission. And I had her practice slapping it into neutral (just in case...) Even if the throttle was stuck and it was in neutral I figure the engine should bounce off the rev limiter.

Beaver showed up in our pond

Well, since lead poisoning is out, try calling your State DEC / DER and see what they have to offer.

    Pro Mac 610

I've seen them run for a few minutes then stop. The culprit is a degraded & stuck duckbill valve in the gas cap. I just remove it rather than get a new cap.

    Filing chains

A second vote for Save Edge files. I was flush cutting a stump and filing the chain every few minutes. The Save Edge files got the job done quickly and smoothly.

    craftsman professional saw

"Craftsman" and "Professional" are mutually exclusive and should not be used in the same sentence.

What do you guys use to carry small amounts of premix?

I use either the MSR or plastic Nalgene camp fuel bottles for premix. I put the bar oil in a 1qt oil bottle with a pour spout from a pancake syrup bottle on it. The pancake syrup snap cap has a larger opening than a dish soap snap cap.

I've got a Monkey Wards that's a McCullough PM 610, just painted a different color.

    Stihl MS 250 C-BE or Shindaiwa 488

Kyle over at Edge & Engine bent over backwards for me to track down the correct flocked filter for my 488. While I was at it I got a few spare bar nuts also. As far as chain, there's a Carlton distributor not far from me so I'm running their .325 semi-chisel.

    Stihl MS 250 C-BE or Shindaiwa 488

I'm happy with my 488. I believe the 488 would be a leftover, the new model is the 490. Same engine, different housing and air filter IIRR.

You'all in the east may need snowblowers & shovels

I've got a sister in Maryland and a brother in Virginia. They've got more snow than us and I'm in Rochester.

    Castor Oil-interesting facts

OT - the WWI radial aircraft engines were built with a stationary crank and the propeller was mounted to the cylinders. The crank was fixed and the whole engine turned. This was done to cool the cylinders. Another FYI - there was no throttle on these engines, they ran wide open. "Throttle" was...

    chainsaw backpack

I've got my old BSA Yucca pack ty-wrapped to a backpack frame. It holds my fuel, oil, water bottles, 1st aid kit, files, tools, and spare chain. For hauling the saw I have some 2" webbing (IIRR old car seatbelts) with snap buckles on it. It's adjusted to length, run through the saw handle, and...

    Dremel Tool for Sharpening?

My brother uses a Dremel. Me? An Oregon file guide, Save Edge files, and a stump vise. We've never compared chains though.

How old were you when you first ran a chainsaw?

Probably 14 or so, dad's old Homelite Zip. 16:1 non-detergent motor oil mix, a real mosquito fogger.

    A chainsaw blooper

It'll be a hard lesson when he hits that big "S"-shaped piece of steel in the tie.
