Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

I am very conscientious about keeping my saws clean by blowing them out frequently with a high pressure air nozzle. Yes, it does 4 cycle at full throttle without a load so I feel the high speed jet is adjusted properly. I am going to try a new IM (coil) and see what happens. Thanks for your...

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

My 1947 Ford V-8 did once in a while but I never heard of a chainsaw doing that. I wonder if anyone on the site ever had that experience with a chainsaw? I will squirt some gas/oil mix into the carb. throat the next time it does this. That might tell me something. Thanks, again. Bob

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

Kenskip1, The compression on the saw is 140 psi cold and 143 psi hot. I don't believe it is the compression. It starts good after it warms up but bogs down when I run it hard. I'm sure that is when the IM gets hot enough to stop working properly. Unless someone has a better idea I am going to...

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

I got busy today and did not have time to check compression. Will try to remember to do that first thing tomorrow. Thanks.

I recently rebuilt carburetor and installed new gas filter but thanks for the suggestion.

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

What should the compression be? Thanks.

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

It does not have points and I don't know what a "coil with a trigger unit" or a "one piece" is. Can you enlighten me? Thanks.

And thank you, Wood Doctor, for your input on my problem. Appreciate it!

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

Thanks for the confirmation of my assessment of the situation. I will try to locate a new one, probably on e-bay since they stand behind the products that are sold on their site, unless you can suggest a better place.

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

Thanks, I will give that a try although I had it set a little more than one turn out on the high speed jet but as you say, it's worth a try!

Stihl 051av quits running when hot.

My Stihl 051av starts and runs great until it gets warmed up real good then it shuts down. After it cools off it will start and run great again until it gets warmed up. I suspect it is the ignition module (coil). What do you guys think? Thanks, Bob R

    Did I really buy a Stihl 090?

I'll see what I can do on the pictures. When I bought it I replaced the muffler and carburetor. While doing this I inspected the cylinder and piston. They looked like new, not a scratch on them. It starts and runs great and handles a 4 foot bar with no trouble when I cut down and cut up a 42...

    Did I really buy a Stihl 090?

It looks very much like that but not exactly. The handles are different and there is no brake on the saw I have. The STIHL logo on the pull starter cover is different, too. Mine does not have any orange in it and the letters are much bigger and appear steel like instead of paint. It may be...

    Did I really buy a Stihl 090?

I bought a saw that was advertised as a Stihl 090. The label/tag that told what model it is was "missing." It looked like it had been scraped off. How can I tell what model it is? The Serial Number is 1233318. The numbers on the underside of the air filter cover are 1106 084 0600 and below...

Problem with set-works on Timber King B-20 bandsaw mimll

The set-works on my Timber King B-20 worked fine the last time I used it. It sat in the pole barn for the last 3 years and when I started it up, the set-works screen was/is very faint and difficult to read. I called the TK dealer in Kansas City and the guy there said that it was an ELECTRICAL...

    Need 60" and 48" bar

Maybe I'll take the oiler out and inspect it for the problem. Thanks for your input. Bob R

    Need 60" and 48" bar

Yes, so is the 59". As you probably know, they have a 42" bar available. I didn't ask them if it was a hard nose or not since I was looking for a 48/47" bar. Since I have a 36" bar on one of my 051s I felt like I needed at least another foot of bar for the 090. My 075 doesn't oil enough to...

    Need 60" and 48" bar

My local Stihl dealer can get me a 47" bar and a 59". I'm guessing these are 48" and 60", respectively. I guess it depends on how you measure it! I was always taught to measure from the beginning of slot, toward the bar nose, to the end of the bar. I didn't ask the dealer how he measured it...
