    Oregon 520-120 Stihl Angles

I have an Oregon 520-120 and have 3 Stihl chain saws, an 021, MS291 and MS391. Trying to figure out what angle to set the sharpener at for my chains. The MS391 chains I have are 3652 005 0084 36RM 84. The Stihl USG chart lists A (head tilt) +40°, B (not sure what that is) ±15° and C (table...

How to store downed trees so they last

Yea my last pile of logs got covered in leaves in the fall so that didn't help much. I'll have to see how many extra logs I have when it's all said and done. I counted 32 trees marked for me to cut this morning, I'm thinking about 18 or so will fill up my wood bins so I may just be building a...

How to store downed trees so they last

I have a buddy that wants some shooing lanes cut in his woods. Most of the trees I'm cutting are 6" to 12" or so hickory. I can cut and split about 6 loads then my wood rack will be full. A few years back I built a shop and had to cut some large oak and hickory trees, so much that it had to be...

Thanks, it was a fun project for sure. We talked about an electric winch but he opted for the simple route. He cuts his wood in a pretty remote place so if the battery failed he would be screwed. JT

    Too Much Wood

I kinda thought so, as you can see from the photo of the rounds on pallets they are on high ground. I think I'll fill up my wood rack then start stacking CSS back onto the pallets. What would you guys cover that with? Thanks JT

    Too Much Wood

Thanks for clearing that up, I'll do that when I re-stack them. I have them up on landscaping timbers so the bottom layer is 3-4" off the ground. The building is for my equipment and to free up space in my machine shop. So it will have tractors, backhoe, crawler w/6-way, splitter, side by side...

    Too Much Wood

I'm trying to save some time and put off the CSS part for a while. Will the logs be OK stacked up till fall? Will pallets get the CSS high enough off the ground? I learned a new meaning for the acronym CSS, I'm an engineer/machinist/fabricator/etc and CSS to me is Constance Surface Speed. Thanks JT

    Too Much Wood

I'm clearing an area for a 30' x 50' equipment building and this is the wood pile and the rounds from that job. The logs are 9' long and the rounds are 18" long. Here is my problem, I have space to store about 3 cords of wood. I burn an average of 1 1/2 cords a winter. My wood rack is...

Actually we had to cut up an old not used anymore home made trailer to get the materials! Well the 1 ton chain fall will pick up a 24" x 9' white oak on single line, he can go around the log and back up to the eye to somewhat double the lift power. He has not picked anything bigger that about...
