    Stihl Propaganda

Great Post! I got a good laugh. I get consistent starting in 2-3 pulls cold with my 440. I feel it would start with one pull cold if I didnt use the full choke and it had run the previous day. It rarely takes more than 1 pull hot.

    stihl 660 magnum mods

Chainsaws use fuel to cool the engine. Any mixture richer than "somewhere in the neighborhood of 12:1 air:fuel ratio will decrease the power produced by a chainsaw. Perhaps someone can enlighten me, but I am assuming that a chainsaw runs in the neighborhood of 7-10:1 fuel air ratio. So you would...

Who starts their saws with the chainbreak off?

I never use the chainbrake during starting, and I almost always drop start. Its the easiest way for me to start the saw and I dont want to wear out the chainbrake.

    Aviation gas

The 4 stroke rotax 912 prefers premium auto gas. You can run 100LL but you have to change the oil more often, Im not sure why but apparently it builds up in the oil and causes problems. Some experimental airplane owners that run highly modified car engines in their airplanes using 100LL, have...

    Aviation gas

Hip Hip Hooray for this well written post. Welcome to Arboristsite!!! I havent been able to read this entire thread yet and plan to do a comprehensive post later (like it will do any good).

    Aviation gas

This post is complete BS. 100LL is rated by MOTOR OCTANE NUMBER. It would totally blow Amoco Ultimate out of the water in terms of Research Octane Number and MON. The info about avgas is out there research ASTM D2700, this is the specification for AVGAS.

    Compression, any rule of thumb?

Yes, when I said "chrome" I meant "Chrome, nikasil, or similar plating".

    stihl 192t

I just bought my dad a 192T for christmas. I got an tank and a half of useage out of it after I gave it to him. I was really impressed with what that little saw would do. He is using the saw for clearing out a few acres of woods and says the light weight makes him prefer the saw to his 034. I...

    Compression, any rule of thumb?

If the saw runs acceptably to you, dont worry about the compression reading. If you have a problem with the saw and thats how you came about finding the low compression reading, then by all means replace the piston and rings. A cylinder swap should be unnecessary, most saws have chrome plated...

What is best cleaner to clean-up saws with?

Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol does a great job of cutting grease and so far I havent had any reaction problems with it.

It wont be as slow as Oak, and believe it or not when dry it makes OK firewood.

    carbide chain?

First you will have to buy a bar grooved at .063 inch. You currently have a .050 groove and the carbide chain will not fit. Second you should sharpen a carbide saw chain and a carbide saw blade. You will find that your saw blades will cut like they did the first day you bought them if you...

    Leaded Gas?

Thanks for being man enough to check your sources and admit the mistake. Many around here would have begun a 50 page long BS session to cover for a mistaken post. You could have posted something like "well.... some experienced motor builders I talked to told me it was 93.5 octane, old braddy boy...

    Leaded Gas?

100LL avgas has a Motor Octane Number (MON) of 100, ASTM Publication D2700 03b states that typical automotive fuels have motor octane numbers of 80-90. Generally speaking Research Octane Numbers (RON) are higher than motor octane numbers for the same fuel. I am guessing that the RON for avgas...

    Leaded Gas?

Good point. Some of you may have seen my earlier posts that speak very favorably of 100LL Avgas. I would like to go on the record to say that leaded gas exhaust fumes are fairly toxic and should be avoided when practical. That being said, breathing the vapors of partially burned unleaded two...

    Leaded Gas?

Uh Oh Ben.... Where do you get that 100LL has an octane level of 93.5? Are you reffering to Research Octane Number or Motor Octane Number or an average of the two. In any event every publication I have ever seen on 100LL Avgas shows much higher than 93.5.

Homeowner VS Pro Saws SAFTY QUESTION

In addition to the fact that more people need to take personal responsibility for thier own actions, people need to realize that the net effect of all of these settlements is to raise prices for everyone else.
