    Loaning Tools

Too many bad experiences in the past when tools got loaned to friends or neighbors. The last straw was whan I had to chase down a larger piece of shop equipment that had been on loan for several months. Because it was large, the borrower had been storing it out in the elements because "it was...

Some things just shouldn't be built

What an ingenious design. I'm sure his FMEA study revealed there was absolutely no way anything could ever go wrong with that plan. :dizzy:

How do you keep your firewood indoors?

No wood gets stored inside. My add-on is on the lowest level of the house in the utility room. There is a window next to it that is normal height on the inside and ground level on the outside. Wood gets stacked outside on a concrete pad. When it's time to load the furnace, you slide the window...

    Firewood is lawn debris?

I've had a couple of notices over the years regarding storing a trailer on my property. It's not exactly a small one, either. it's a 28' enclosed car trailer. I spoke to the local code enforcement guy and told him I wasn't paying to store it in some commercial yard where is would be at high risk...

Looking For A Dump Trailer in Michigan

You might want to try Beck's in St. Johns. I was there a few days ago and they had a pretty good selection.

Did I pay too much for this truck?

I'd say you did outstanding. How drunk was the guy you bought it from?

Splitter update just in time for a wood delivery, PICS!

Every now and then, 'ol Shel needs to get taken down a notch or two and I'm just the guy to do it. :msp_wink: I'll be at Columbus. Look for the silver Cobra inside the building with the commercial displays. I'll be hanging out there. Stop by and say hello.

What this site really needs is a "don't like" button. :msp_mad:

Splitter update just in time for a wood delivery, PICS!

That one is on Dad's bucket list. Get a few outstanding projects out of the way and that beauty needs a full resto on a Roadster Shop frame and LS power. Someday........

Firewood poachers living danerously in Michigan

Darwin will have his way with them sooner or later. You can bet on it.

Looking for a semi load of seasoned fire wood

Another vote for Chris Muma. My experience with them goes back to the mid-80's and every one of them has been positive. You'll get quality wood delivered exactly when they say it will be there.

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

You call it BS. I call it being prudent. If that qualifies me as a "Safety Nazi", then I guess that's a badge I'll wear with pride.

The vitriol in that statement is astonishing. I'll refrain from commenting further.

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

Not trying to pick a fight but I have to ask, how are you going to feel when one of those cheap straps breaks at some inopportune moment and your cargo/truck/trailer gets damaged or worse, somebody gets hurt?

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

As others have said, your problem can be summed up in two words: Cheap Straps. Get yourself some 2" wide ones with heavy-duty ratchets and a rating of 8,000-10,000 lbs. from Mac's or M&R, install some stout D-rings to the floor/frame of your trailer and never look back.

Anyone have experience renting out their own log splitter?

Been there, done that. As others have said, the majority of people out there don't care enough to treat YOUR equipment with any reasonable level of respect. I've loaned mine out on a couple of occasions to "friends" and the results were not good. Keep in mind, these guys were "friends". At this...

    Truck for hauling firewood/whatever else

The Ford is a 3/4 ton long box and the Chevy is a 1/2 ton with what looks to be a short box. Unless 4WD is a deal breaker for ya', I'd go Ford on this one. Wave five Benji's under the Ford owners nose and drive away laughing hysterically when he takes them.

Sa-weet score! If only I could rep your dad for still getting after it like that!

Harbor fright manual wood splitter (slide hammer style)

I'd have to agree with Dave. If you were processing some wood that splits real easy to begin with, it would probably work OK. God help ya' if you've got a pile of elm.
