climbing-tearing up your body-how long can we do it for!?

Everyone is different. How long we can keep climbing depends on many factors, some we can control, some we cannot. 52 and climbing over 20. Never flew a bucket nor used a crane (yet). I offer the following tips from an old climber. - Use grip gloves. Being macho will only hurt your body. -...

    The square

I will be switching to them shortly, as I am finishing a horrible experience with FIRST DATA offered through Sam's Club. Hidden fees out the wazoo, machine lease written a year longer than the processing agreement, with no way out but paying in full. I will be pissed at Sam's forever for...

    Vermeer BC2000 Service Help

I have an '03 BC 2000 and the clutch adjustment is stone cold simple. If you did not tell them to rush, or that you needed it back asap or "by tomorrow", I would flat refuse to pay any overtime. IF they actually worked on it after hours, THEY made the decision to work overtime, not you.

Anyone using or used the BIG BUCK BLOCKS?

Get some larger (3mm) throw line for the installation of these. I have always used 1.75mm zing-it for everything but with the large buck blocks, it gets lodged between the rollers and their mounting frame (or block) on occasion when flipping it over a limb. Bought the 3mm stuff just for this...

    Ordered 50 custom T-shirts

Ever destroy a new shirt the first day you wore it? Happens pretty often in tree work. I would give them three to start with, and one a month after that. The return to your company from them looking sharp instead of grungy will easily offset the cost of the shirts. I am still using shirts...

    Dieing of old age?

Very similar situation to myself Beast. It was wearing me out trying to give the homeowners the straight truth without just outright telling them that what the other "Certified Arborists" told them was false, if not intentionally misleading. I decided I did not want to be associated with them...

    rigging tip

Good basic rigging info, but would probably serve more in the 101 thread.

    will a port-a-wrap hold a load

It may be obvious, but you should also fill the barrel with wraps if you are going to load it significantly. It will help keep the lock from loading too tight.

    Training discount certificates

Just received my canopy Club kit from Sherrill Tree and it contains discount coupons for training. $50 towards a ArborMaster hands-on training module, and one for $25 towards a north American Training Solutions Hands-on training module. The dates have expired but the said they will honor them...

    2000xl anvil flipping

Not sure but it should be the same as for a non XL bc2000. Search for: Bc2000 knife bed adjustment. I guess it depends on your mechanical ability, but I found it fairly easy. Study the parts diagram and understand how the cammed pieces work before removal. After flipping mine, I set it...

    New Bri-Mar dump trailer

Don't see how to edit what I posted... It's 102" wide outside, the max allowed without a permit. inside is 80 something. It fills up your lane on most small back roads with little or no room left between the tires and the lines. Think I would go for the narrower one unless you have wide...

How to get a sling around a tree before climbing it? What technique is this?

Guess I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions. If you are new to climbing, you really need to spend a little on some books. A good start is the tree climbers companion. Bailey's - The Tree Climbers Companion - by Jeff Jepson Available at Sherrill Tree and Wesspur also.

    Bar oil jugs

Northern tool 2.5 gal jugs are about $11.20 per gal before using any coupons, and about $9.18 per gal if you use their readily available coupons.

    New Bri-Mar dump trailer

No major issues. Paid $5500 for a 12' ten years ago, 102'wide. Paid extra for the thicker floor and the door/gate that can spread. Rated at 12k but weighs about 4k. I have loaded and moved dirt in the yard which almost flattened all four tires, and it still dumped. It has twin dump...

    What knot you use?

It all boils down to using a knot which you trust will work 100% of the time for you. The guys that use the timber hitch trust it or would use something else. I use a running bowline if I am on the trunk when I tie it. If i shoot a line up for a pull, I use a bowline so the knot will be clear...
