    Virgin forests

I've cut some old fierce WWII battle zones. The artillery fire and air bombing do cut trees down efficiently, yet the concentrated fire areas are usually quite limited. There is always trees left from the battle. The survivors contain steel and nickel enough to drive a sawmill guy mad by the...

On the same level, but on the opposite side of the big ball. Scandinavia.

    Axes for wedging

It's like getting spanked for doing somethin naughty. You'll thank yourself later for dragging around a two extra pounds.

    Axes for wedging

Those Husky axes come with a Swedish head made by Gränsfors. They make great and sharp heads for carving. Although in the brush you'll end up cutting yourself and your caparison. You might want to give it a tad of a grinder touch before you go. Carbon steel will also get rusty. I'm guessing the...

    Virgin forests

Patches of "never done by anyone" virgin forests are scattered everywhere up here. Most of them are not too impressive, though. You wouldn't probably know the stand is over 500 years old without drilling out the trees. An old growth stand may well look like this.

Falling wedges. What's good, what's not, and why?

Merry Christmas to you too, sir! There is indeed something new about the narrowing subject of wedges. You see, the Chinese finally figured out their plastic issues - their wedges won't chip away as they used to. You can now buy yourself a pair of 8'' wedges for just five quids, not for a tenner...

How many are running square ground?

I don't know what they've been up to in the Cheese Country, but the new full chisel Swiss made chains are cutting beautifully. Plus no stretch whatsoever.

    The Descriptive Process

Putting some mild inconvenience aside, the rain isn't usually doing you as a cutter much harm. The wind is. As well as the heat. That probably won't make you appreciate the rain any more than you do now, but it'll make you hate the other elements more.

    New guy here.

A 2 inches wide leather holster attached with screws on the belt, Mike. Took a bit tinkering to get it just right, but now I'm happy with it.

Yes, You did post a video of a sweaty afternoon spent on handfalling with a 660 for Ron's processor. I remember Ron showing too giving the saw a try. It was funny because the saw was an overkill indeed. I'm sorry to hear of your buddy, Nate.

Kinda spoiled your campaign: 'Dr. Jon's painless shiny smiles - cleaning off before you know it', didn't it?

    Be Careful Out There

They can hit you hard. A guy I know got a springpole to his nuts. He said the blow knocked him off for a moment. And that it wasn't a happy landing back on earth.

Oh, get off the swamp now, Bitz. Drinking all that brown water makes you not right in the end, you know.

I'm starting my weekend with a Pabst Blue Ribbon. If my memory serves me right, Mountain Sam (oh, brother, where art thou) and Mountain Randymac had this thing with PBR. There might have been many more. I've never had a PBR before, nor any American beers in that matter. Not bad, so far. Very...

    Falling pics 11/25/09

It's a Norwegian Spruce. The picture doesn't show, but the stem forked after few steps. The forwarder operator was standing on the stump and caught me asking, whether he fancies stretching his legs. He passed it. It took three hours to clean up. While the bulldozer unit keeps closing in every...

The ugliest of the season so far. Logging by a highway, which is about to get wider some of these days.

    Hi kids :-)

A geezer I know wasn't too happy with his 251, because the saw ran out of oil long before gas. All that could be done was to score some thicker bar oil. There is also chemistry for home cookers to thicken the bar oil - no need for that, fortunately, a commercial brand was stiff enough.

Today is St Lawrence's day. In my country they say that Larry, he pisses on the leaves. That's why they start turning yellow from now on.
