Tree ID (Sorry, I'm sure these get asked a lot)

Oh okay yeah. When we cut it, it was above freezing but it was also in the single digits that night and teens in the morning. It was probably still frozen.

Also wouldn't there be sap running in the sugar maple this time of the year? Wouldn't we see some of it.

I feel like the buds don't look very similar to sugar maple I see online though.

Tree ID (Sorry, I'm sure these get asked a lot)

http://imgur.com/a/7EDFq There is an album for the one tree. I am nearly sure they're the same tree. Almost everything is identical. I care more about this one anyway. Click the link for the album. It had just rained here, so you can see a big difference in the color of the wood. I cut a 2"...

Any way to confirm that? Especially sugar vs silver.

As in buck off a piece and split it?

Tree ID (Sorry, I'm sure these get asked a lot)

I'd have to get closer pictures of the bark and branches. I might go out today. I can also take picture of the branches. Would it help if I cut off a small piece, cut it to see the face grain, dry it in the microwave then sand it? Or something of the sorts. I was reading white oak trees...

These trees were cut recently in New York, any way to ID the trees based on these pictures? Or at least narrow it down? What can I do to ID it positively? Thank you!

Felling a tree for hardwood lumber

Yes, the guy I am bringing it to is very experienced and would trust him more than anyone else around to take every precaution necessary. Yes, good to know, that is basically what I am looking for. Thank you.

Felling a tree for hardwood lumber

My concern wasn't seeing a physical break in the tree, my concern was that if a certain procedure wasn't taken to drop the tree "correctly" that there may be internal damage to the wood. Damage that would only be seen as the tree was being milled or even further after, when it is made into...

Felling a tree for hardwood lumber

I have access to a very nice 26" DBH white oak tree that I can have milled into lumber. I'm in my off-season and one of my co-workers spent most of his career in the tree business, clearing limbs near high voltage power lines and clear-cutting. He is a climber. I can have him do whatever I need...

Want to Sell my MS441 Need Input

Are you saying you wouldn't pay $650 for a 441? If that's the case, I wouldn't either. I was happy with a brand new one with warranty for $650 at the time, but I'm going to get $650 for this one and I won't look back.

Want to Sell my MS441 Need Input

Oh no we split it. I just said I paid when I meant we paid. We decided it was worth selling. I picked up a very very nice 660 for $600. Barely used at all

Want to Sell my MS441 Need Input

Very good condition. I paid $650 for it brand new with a 28" bar. Stihl dealer from Rochester knew he would never sell it and just sold it to me for that price. I'm getting a 2 year old 660 that looks to be in great shape with some scratches is all for $600. So, selling the 441 for $650 and...

Want to Sell my MS441 Need Input

Actually I think I just answered my own question. I'd rather have a ported 360 over a stock 441 and then to have the option to port the 660 with the large chunk of change I would get for the 441 would be my decision.

Want to Sell my MS441 Need Input

360 is sentimental so I wouldn't be as inclined to sell it. I wouldn't get close to $650 for that saw though.
