    Property Line Questions......

Neighbor feuds are never fun to get in the middle of and it seems that trees many times are the scapegoat for the real issues between the neighbors. That is why we have a form that we make our clients get the neighbor to sign off on anytime our client wants us to prune neighbors' trees. If...

Without seeing the trees - my first thought would be verticillium wilt.

    painting wounds to prevent DED

DED also will kill red (slippery) elms, rock elms and Camperdown elms. Generally will not kill Siberian or Chinese (now called lacebark in many locals) elms. We have painted pruning cuts when we have had to prune elms during the growing season - think storms.

    Help With Root Prunning

Why don't you hire someone with a TreeRadar unit and do a bunch of root scans. Then you'd have a good idea where the roots are and the impact excavation would have.

    Giving employees company shares?

If you don't pay workmans comp on an employee (or officer) you don' get to collect on WC if injured. So you give or sell them stock -what happens when they quit or you fire them? How do you redeem their stock? For what price? You need to discuss this idea with an attorney.

When using Florel, you also need temperatures above 60 -65 degrees. That's why it works better on later flowering species.

Oak pruning and Wisc. DNR date

Keep track of the accumulated growing degree days. At what point do picnic beetles start flying? Base your decision on that. And you are right - April 15 doesn't mean the same thing in Walworth as it does in Sayner. However, the basis of that date came from a compromise with the line...

    Employee coverage

Working for a tree service without Workman's Comp coverage is like going to the moon without a plan on how to get back. Everything might come out OK, but the odds are that it won't.

    Oak Gall

This link takes you to a 2001 JOA dissertation on a study of gouty and horned oak gall on pin oaks in Kentucky. It appears you are better off spraying at bud break. http://www.treelink.org/joa/2001/march/06_HORNED_OAK_GALL_eliason.pdf

    G.r.c.s

The handle is fine - have never had any trouble with it. There is an attachment for mounting it in receiver hitches. Our Buckets have receivers placed in 4 different locations. There also is an adapter for using a gas drill to "crank" it up. Ordered another one last week.

    Trenching through oak roots

Even with "eminent domain" you have to be paid for your loss. Go to www.asca-consultants.org/ to locate a consultant arborist near you. Have him/her appraise the trees and give their opinion as to what the damage will be from the trenching. You are much better off if you are prepared on the...

    Tree of Heaven Allergic Reaction?

About a year ago TCIA put out a notice that Ailanthus can induce heart attack like symptoms in people that are allergic to it. This information had been in medical journals for a while but Ailanthus was referred to as Chinese Sumac in the journals.
