Help with some part numbers.... FS55 brush trimmer

Hi, all! Wow, been quite a while (again.) I purchased a busted FS55 brush trimmer from my Stihl dealer a while back. About 7 months ago I moved back to Cali and brought it to fix up and use on my new property. It's a nice-looking unit that didn't appear to have many hours on it. Absolutely...

    New to primer bulbs.....

So maybe a blocked passage? If a newie is $25, that seems like good insurance. Sure appreciate it, gents.

    New to primer bulbs.....

Hello again, my brothers (and maybe sisters?). I like old school stuff so I haven't had anything with a primer bulb to date. I just picked up a used BG85 blower (yes, good compression) that seems in good shape. Pops with mix down the carb, so I think it's non running status can be remedied...

    Identify this Husky saw!

272XP or 268. Same case, tanks, grommets, etc. Very good stuff. Staring at one right now.

    028 super with 032 engine?

Well...I'll never say never, so I'm not 100% positive... but the saws are not related in any way whatsoever. A big fish story, I'm afraid..

Stihl 026 needs love! Show me the way...

Your little 026 is a nice find, sweeter for the incredibly low price. My favorite saws are the ones I got for a song and worked really hard for me. My favorite unit by far is the wreck 026 I got with a scratched bore that, with nothing to lose, I did a pretty aggresive port job on. It's ugly...

    Ticks

Ticks freak me out. I literally hate them and there's not much that i say that about. I don't like using toxins on myself, but in the presence of ticks, I start applying the insecticides. Lyme disease can be very debilitating.

    I.D. the Carcass

I'm a believer, and now that I think about it, I do also have other 042/048 parts in there. A couple metal tanks among other things. About ten years ago, I bought the better part of a shipping container of carcasses from a small engine shop. Things I didn't know much about got consigned to...

Stihl 026 needs love! Show me the way...

Re sprocket, not too hard. The clutch drum is easy. Remove the circlip, and the sprocket assembly should slide off. Be advised, there are two different types of sprockets for the saw, a shallow one for the basic oiler and the deeper, notched one for use with the adjustable oiler. Pop the...

    I.D. the Carcass

I'll check it again, the exhaust port is angled sharply and it was hard to get the little stick in there straight. I'll have to use some bent solder or something. I wouldn't have expected a 4mm difference, but... I have learned that not much gets by the esteemed Jacob J. Darn, not a big...

    266 281 worth reviving???

Those Huskies are classic blockbuster models. Check that 266 for spark... wish there was a way to convert those from the 2-piece iggy. And they may not be the most popular saw for saw snobs, but people love the crap out of the 029. Sold one to a tree service guy who said he only ran 290s. I...

    I.D. the Carcass

Hello, Brothers! Or brother and sisters," maybe, there's got to be a woman among the ranks somewhere.... this is an equal opportunity post. Got a saw I need help with. Bore is 56mm... I'm thinking 056 mag. I'm going to Fleabay it, but I need to make a positive ID. Nice shiny piston, rewind...

    I can't hand file a chain!

Man, I've never even tried, it just LOOKED like something I'd suck at. I bought a decent electric sharpener/grinder and made sure I had enough chains to last the day.

    Installing Crank Seals Without Lubrication

I don't think you need to do anything either... BUT... if you're REALLY worried, shlep a little bit of 2-cycle oil (or mix, honestly) into the bottom end and tip the saw on its side... it should get past the bearings and onto the seal. Ultimately, the whole bottom end is lubed by the oil in the...

    First Post

Man, we gotta get you a computer. Does this mean you don't have a cell phone? Much can be done there these days also. Welcome.

Had my mind made up....which saw

A 460 is awfully heavy for firewood duty, unless you're a big ol' hoss. I know a guy, who is huge, who runs an 880 as a firewood saw... it's his first saw so he really didn't quite understand just how big that saw is. Even the 372 will tire you out doing firewood duty. No problem with doing...

ethanol caused chrome cylinder in stihl saw to disappear?

Yea, silly, unless he just meant that bad gas made his saw melt down... even that's a bit presumptuous, since the operator should know better than to run gas that's THAT far gone. But I guess lots of people aren't familiar with the downside of ethanol gas.

Stihl 044 Crank seal (oiler side)

Indeed, sometimes when you uninstall and reinstall the oiler, the seal can leak..... they get stiff and once you unseat them.... well, you know. Hey, at least you know how to get in there and do it. Prolly six or ten bucks for the hose... the screen is reusable, provided I'm keeping my saws...
