Chinese Cylinder Kits for Rebuilding Husky 55

I'm looking around for a cheap Husky 51 or 55 to rebuild, especially one that only needs a new piston and cylinder. Some of the kits are $80-$90. Are these worth considering? Anyone use these kind of aftermarket kits? If not, what kit and source would you recommend? Thanks in advance

89-93 Octane with Ethanol or 87 Octane without Ethanol? Which is best?

I seem to have these two choices or perhaps buying the premix in a can at the local dealer. I know this has been discussed before, but most of the octane threads seemed to be pretty old and dated. I have tried to use ethanol-free regular 87 gas when I can find it for all of my lawn equipment...

    Husky 55

What a great find, Joe. I just got a 55 Rancher off Ebay and it looks like a new one. It has dual dogs but no decomp. What kind of compression are you finding on your 55? Mine's 145 psi cold after 4 pulls.

What saw would you wish they would start remanufacting?

Husky 55, Stihl 028 and 038, Dolmar 5100....at the price points of years ago. Chainsaw prices and the blasted EPA regulations have exploded.

    Will this happen to STIHL????

Stihl Quality is not as good anymore Stihl has the advantage in the fact that they stayed in dealer networks and remained a family owned. However, I purchased the Stihl 290 a year ago and it has been trouble. It shuts off when hot and will not restart. Several trips to the shop have not...

Compression Tester - Anyone tried the Harbor Freight Units?

Compression Test Kit Has anyone this or any of their devices? I would prefer to order from AS sponsors, but there is a HFT store here in town and I could look this over before I bought. Worried that the hose is too long, though. Thanks.

Husqvarna 55 Rancher - Bought it used online today

I just bought a 55 Rancher on ebay. Looks like a new one; listing said four years old with very little use. A couple of hours running time in 4 years, so I need to make sure such long periods of storage did not cause a problem. I will check it over when I get it. I will probably replace the...

Husky 346xp, 353 (or Redmax G5300), Stihl 260 PRO, Redmax G621AVS: Which one?

Didn't mean to be confusing. I listed the G621AVS because I can get it new at the same price as the G5300 and cheaper than the 346XP or 353. Also, for 62 cc, it felt pretty comfortable as far as weight and handling. Otherwise, I'll probably stick to no smaller than a 50-55cc saw.

Husky 346xp, 353 (or Redmax G5300), Stihl 260 PRO, Redmax G621AVS: Which one?

It's funny you mentioned the 260 PRO, I saw a new one in a local shop and was surprised. What a great looking saw! Is this still a current model for Stihl or is it being replaced like the rest of their line? Whether or not it's older, I'll definitely take another look at this one.

Husky 346xp, 353 (or Redmax G5300), Stihl 260 PRO, Redmax G621AVS: Which one?

I have a small farm and these are my choices for a weekend saw. I rarely do any felling, but I live on a small river where large old hardwoods will fall across and in the river. I could probably get by with a Husky 450 or even a Stihl 250, but I want to get a little more saw than needed...

Has anyone purchased saws from wisesales.com?

Good prices on saws. Anyone bought from this vendor before?

    Red Max G621AVS -

I was in a local shop today and spotted a RedMax G621AVS on the shelf. The owner said it was new but is his last one and had been in the store for awhile. He's dropping the Redmax saw line. Is this worth looking at for relatively frequent small farm use? I know it is an older design and no...

    Dolmar/Makita questions

Wow! Great pics. I did get a call back from HD and they also said to check with a local store with a rental dept. Tell me about that black air cleaner on your saw in these pics.:blob3: Thanks for the information!

    Dolmar/Makita questions

Called HD and they seem lost on this I called my local (S.C.) and national Home Depot offices and all they find is some electric Makita chainsaw. Do you have a SKU number and/or an HD catalog number that you can share? Or the phone number for your local store? Beautiful saw, BTW. I've...

Where are These Saws Manufactured? - Stihl, Husqvarna, Dolmar, Jonsered, Redmax, Efco

I know this has probably been discussed to death here, but I am new to the forum and haven't found the right thread to answer this. The labels on the saws are confusing as well. The serial number tags on a 445, 450, 455 Husky say Sweden (but not the words "MADE IN"). The 235 actually says on...

Choosing new 50cc saw, Dolmar, Husky, Stihl, Jonsereds?

Budget has to be a concern, Carl, so I say keep going. We are occasional users on a site full of folks that use their saws every day.

Choosing new 50cc saw, Dolmar, Husky, Stihl, Jonsereds?

The Husky 450 is currently available from Amicks superstore in Asheboro NC for $339 (you may have to ask for this price by email). A friend of mine has one and it is a great cutting saw. I looked at these, but still I wonder about the plastic instead of metal crankcase, so I have backed off.

Choosing new 50cc saw, Dolmar, Husky, Stihl, Jonsereds?

I, too, am looking for a 50 cc saw that will last for 20 years farm use. I am down to the Husky 353 and the Dolmar PS510. On the Dolmar, I have always understood that the PS510 has an aluminum crankcase. I called Dolmar and they said magnesium but I don't think so. Other than the added weight...
