Cleaning it would be a good idea

    recommended bar size for 041

It really depends on the size of wood you're cutting. The oilers on these saws can handle some long bars when they're turned up, I've ran up to a 24" with my Super and had no problems. I find they balance nice with a 20".

Got myself some NOS 2100 stuff

The brake bands and the pistons are awesome finds.

finally a decent pawn shop find

Its logging country up here so the pawn shops have a steady parade of worn out falling saws. The last 288 I looked at all of the threads holding the recoil on were worn, so someone drillled into the case and used a half dozen wood screws to keep it on.

Is an 041 Farm Boss worth dumping $150 into ?

I have to mention......an 041 non AV will rattle a LOT more than an 044! If this will be an issue I would save your $150

    Best "Value" Bar

Your expected use will dictate value. A quality bar is worth it if you're putting the hours on it. I use my saws quite a bit so I stick with the Oregons

    Jred 2065

Internally its a husky 365 (pre XT). Built on the same bottom end as a 372. They're a solid 65cc saw, lots of parts available for them too.

    Stihl 041's

So many of these saws lost a piston from the intake stack shaking loose and causing a huge air leak. I rebuilt my Super around a NOS piston and cylinder I was lucky to find. The original cylinder cleaned up pretty good, it will be a spare for now. I'm sure I posted this photo before but who...

    Dolmar 6400 first outing

All of the new 6400 saws have cats now-I'm not sure what year they changed over, but the model number didn't change (unlike Makita, which went from 6401 to 6421 with the cat intro). The newer mufflers have the extra brace on the front edge. Mine is non-cat. I have bigger saws but my 6400 is...

    New Stihl 261 C-M!

If the 261 takes the same sprocket cover as the 441, then it won't fit an 026/260 (I already went through this trying to find a replacement cover for my cracked 441-my 026 and 066 covers wouldn't fit)

    Dolmar 5105 model differences

The 7900 to 7910 move had to do with emissions, not fuel economy. Dolmar knew they had a popular saw with the 7900. If I can find a clean 7900 I'll probably grab it.

    air cleaner-cleaning

I cut a lot of dead trees so I prefer the flocked filters. I use soapy water and a sink hose, that seems to be the most effective for me.

2101xp/ top all time muscle saws!!!!!!!!!!!

Norm, what air filter you using in this pic? I'm trying to find a better solution for cutting in dead douglas fir-the stock mesh filter is not keeping up (I haven't been able to find a used V-stack for a 2100 either)

    041 av brake problems

041 saws had two different brakes available. The most common is a metal band that tightens around the sprocket. The least common style is the "isolating clutch" where a cam arm locks a slide mounted onto the clutch. I've had both styles-the isolating clutch one can be hard to find parts for...

    ms 440

If you want one, start calling dealerships around you now. The dealer here blew their last 440s out the door at a discount. Only 441s now

    Stihl 041 super chain selection

I don't know about .325 on a 70cc....but nice work on the saw! It looks good

    Which one would you get

Stihl 026 is a great saw. Used it really depends on the condition though.

    038 magnum or 041 super

If they are in similar condition, 038 all the way. I really like my 041 Super, but more out of nostalgia I think. Even at 72cc they won't cut with more modern 70+ saws, 038 magnum included.
