Olympyk, Olympic, Oleo Mac, Emak, Efco, Blitz, Folux, Spartan, Spartacus thread

My Brother has a Olympyk 950 super that needs a clutch. He ordered one that was suppose to fit a Oleomac off Ebay but the threads are wrong. The new clutch was 8mm threaded and his is 10mm and left handed. He said it is 12mm thick and the drum is oregon part #28952. Anybody have a clue what...

    Is this cylinder beat?

If its for you, I would run it. You wont loose much compression.

What saw parts to have on hand when cutting?

Nothing, I run stihl's. :) just kidding, extra chain , spark plug, and at least 1 extra saw. I always end up with one pinched.

    MS290 key sheared

IIRC the key is part of the flywheel on the 290.

and the wife says, "How many saws do you have?"

I always just ask, Ones that run? as I'm walking away.

    MS 390 Reassembly

I coat the seals. One more thing to stop a leak. I don't torque the pan bolts, just get them tight like when I took it apart. One thing, don't use to much sealant. I have taken saws apart with way to much glue used, it will make a mess inside.

    MS 390 Reassembly

I like to assemble it outside the saw. I put some oversized nuts, like 1/2 inch or so on the bolts to act as spacers so the bolts will fit. I let it sit overnight and then reassemble.

    ms250 questions

the piece on the right looks like the gas tank vent. If it is just a tube with a small bolt then it is the vent.

Pull starter issue with new MS251?

are the short strokes caused by compression? if you just pull it and not try and get it to compression does it work better? 5 to 6 pulls is not out of the ordinary if the saw hasn't been started in a some time.

What is your mechanical history and aptitude?

My Dad is a farmer/ mechanic. One of my uncles ran a body shop when I was young, another one is a machinist. From the time I was old enough not to put the wrench in my mouth I was "helping" my dad. First jobs were parts washer, gas in a metal pan and a scrub brush, and wrench getter. We...

    036 bogs, dies

Start with the basics. Pull the muffler look at the side of the piston for scoring. If it is smooth and pretty your good, if it looks like its been ground on, time to tear it apart. If that's good do a compression check. Should be 140psi or better. If that passes its a vac, pressure test...

ok,, call me stupid and ignorant and kick me in the sack

I put a ms 360 90% of the way together when I found the crank case gasket laying in the box. I guess the first time assembling was just for practice.

    Stihl 031 av

next time you run it. if it wont start check for spark right away. that will narrow the search.
  17. 50blues

    Stihl 031 av

The first guess would be the condenser. It is located under the flywheel. Another option is to bypass the points and condenser. You can get either an atom or omega module to replace them. Go to google/yahoo or your favorite search engine and do a search for that. If you end the search with...

polishing 044 intake and exhaust ports on cylinders

to polish, I wrap some sandpaper round a piece of rod, chuck it into the drill and go to town. You can actually remove a lot of material with it so go slow.

    Stihl 031 av

Does it have electronic ignition, or points? does it say electronic on the cover under 031?
