Propagating Trees (C. kousa, M. glypto) etc

I am interested in learning more of the horticultural/nursery side of our trade and am trying to propagate a japanese cedar and a dawn redwood right now from seed and a kousa dogwood that I might try to softwood cut and air layer because I have no seeds. Does anyone know any specifics about any...

    challenge course set up

Are you helping someone or a group who have done it before and you are an extra hand? Or are you a part of a group doing it for the first time? If the former is true and you have worked at all in trees I think you will find yourself useful to the group by being comfortable at height and...

    A Few Videos

Nice videos, I like how you use the snap cut a lot. What's the friction saver type rig you are using with the Pinto? pulley on it? Looks like a good idea if I am figuring right.

Back cut level with conventional notch?

I was working with a guy this past week on a job and he told me that the back cut on a conventional notch is now being taught to be level with the face cut instead of a little above it as traditionally done. I had heard nothing about this, has anyone else?

Work positioning when not in spurs

I find getting a crotch as high as I can is super helpful, then a lanyard around the truck to hold you in, then you can sort of push off the trunk with your feet.

    Best management practices set?

For web archive purposes I purchased all but 2 of the set and they prove to be very good resources in easy to read format. At only $7 each they are a great resource to have on hand and clearly outline the A300 standards.

    Studying For Maine Arborist Exam

I am studying to take the Maine Arborist exam and wondering if anyone has taken it recently or knows anything about it. I have the study guide for it but it seems like there will be much more on it than what's covered in the guide. Any advice or resources to check out would be appreciated...

    026 for $125 Good Deal?

Final Outcome I ended up buying the 026 powerhead after running it, I also bought an echo 330t and a 372xp powerhead from the guy all for $350 I think it was maybe 4. I didn't really do the checks I should have on the saws, but I ran them all. I asked if there was anything wrong with them and...

372xp First build up project, what next?

The dogs are because I was cutting a lot of dead birch that I couldn't get leverage on because of the smaller stock dogs. The HD springs are really just because the stock ones were getting squishy and needed replacing anyway. I'm not sure there is really that much difference? I have been happy...

372xp First build up project, what next?

Point Taken Good point, although I found the stock dogs were bested by just a bit of dead bark and I found the larger ones a fast improvement if a bit overkill. I often wish to have a full wrap for felling so I can stand to the right of the tree and backcut more comfortably. Is a full wrap a...

372xp First build up project, what next?

I got a used 372 in the spring with barely any compression and a few other problems and have been fixing it up. Got it running stock about a month ago and ran it in. Just added a port to the muffler and man is it loud and a bit faster as well. Larger dogs and HD springs are other additions...

How much should my 372xp oil?

Case Closed. It was the small oil way on my Oregon bar that was the issue; I opened it up and it flows much better.

Positioning for a big limb block down?

What techniques are there for getting a good position to block down a big horizontal limb? Such as one close over a target so it needs to come down in short sections? All I am familiar with is standing in a choked sling as a foothold, but I'm hoping there is a better option? Thanks

How much should my 372xp oil?

Thanks for the replies, my oiler was all the way up and I have dad the oiler apart and everything looks fine. I will try reaming out the oiler hole on the bar as it does seem like enough oil comes out of the oiler with the bar off, maybe try another bar first to make sure thats the problem...

How much should my 372xp oil?

I have been fixing up a 372xp and it is nearly finished except for a few upgrades like new dogs and AV mounts. I have i fitted with a 24" bar and it does not seem to oil as much as I would expect. I am used to a chain throwing a fair amount of oil off the tip easily visible. This saw barely...

Swing a limb using a hinge?

How effective would it be to swing a limb into a drop zone using a hinge, basically treating it as a heavy side leaner? Would it work any better for bigger or smaller limbs, hardwoods versus softwoods? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
