    ms640 vs 660 crankshafts

Hi guys...can anyone advise crankshaft compatibility of the 660 for a 640...I have a low hrs near mint 640 (not 064) which has run its small end on the conrod...its clearly run through what little case hardening there was (Stihl nz don't want to know about it)...I've been told there are several...

    Sugihara Super Hard Tip

Sugihara bars are second to none...have a couple of solid nose I use regularly and wear very well, no chipping of the stellite tip and the bar body's are on a par with Stihl bar hardness.

    Homelite 1050 auto for milling?

Hi Rarefish...I have 3 chainsaw mills (running 30, 42 & 65" bars on 3120 & 880 powerheads) and been slabbing timber for a few years now...and played around with a LOT of different settings, chains etc...evolving a design through 4 evolutions with a friend and myself, helped a LOT with a rope...

    Granberg G-106B Chain Sharpening Questions

Agreed...a couple of teeth won't hurt...a test'll tell you...better to cut the affected cutters out & re-rivet a couple of new ones in than to grind/file them all back...you'll be able to get some new cutters from you shop (they'll have a heap in a tray from left overs for a buck or 2) if you...

    Pricing for carvings

I've been full time carving for 8 years...I use the term "full time" tung in cheek because the trick is to be able to equate a relative full time week...40 hours. On that basis to start you need to determine what you see as a "relative" income for you, for the year. loosely speaking $80k...

    Redmax G3200 carving bar

I see this posts getting a little old now but, I'm a newbie to chainsaw carving...been working with saws most of my life and got introduced to saw carving by a fellow carver. Excellent tip on modifying the cutters for tip work...hadn't been able to work it out. My collegue uses Stihl...

Home made CSM - First attempt at milling

Hi Dan, Your entering into a very satisfying and productive interest...there seems to be for me at least a strong sense of satisfaction of making something from the very grass roots...perhaps a connection to a sense of pioneering...for the want of better words. Anyway...PM me and I'll get...

    Just Bought 2 Dolmars

Sweet little saws aye...The newer PS range are nice saws (as were the old)...I have a McCulloch 6900 which is a rebranded 120si (smoooth)...not as good as my old 133...but then size does matter, mind you, no decomp nearly rips the nuckles out of my hand...I'd really like a 166...mmmm

    The Big saws.

I run a 2077 with 36" bar & 404...if you can get a good second hand one...they're a nice little saw...big enough to cut reasonably fast and light enough to swing around all day OK..2093/4 would better for the bar but like I say...all day and it handles it with the right set on the chain

    025 Muffler Mod (Pics)

I've been bitting my lip and holding off long enough...Just cut the louvers out all together. Theres a lot more to what you're doing than you think and what isn't being considered here is the dynamics of the gases passing through your ports and muffler baffles. Heres a small example to...

    3/8 x .050 vs 3/8 x .063 Chain?

After reading the disagreements on the hardness of stihl chain...I went downstairs to run a wee test on some Carlton which I used to use (I've found Carlton to last a fair bit better than Oregon in my work), against stihl which I now use...did a fairly crude drop test with a 20oz hammer and...

The nearest on Mikes site is the 850..SP70 appears quite different..I recognise this saw as being sold a month or two ago and advertised as an 850 at the time...price went to high for me..seller thought it was 50cc and heavy as a truck

    Old Homelite question

I haven't pulled one of these apart...but give them a good rinse and flush the tanks out with amonia to get rid of the combustables..and heat them in an oven to about 250f...have a board setup and remove them from the heat and give each screw head a sharp wack with a small hammer and a...
