Anyone have experience with both, the Stihl MS261 and the MS291??

the 261 runs .325 chain so you can get a little bit more out of it due to the narrower kerf, the 261 being a pro saw also means if you ever have to replace the cylinder you dont have to split the crankcase.

Yeah west gippsland, quite nice and infact all the forested area north of the highway is great country, from beenak through to thompson dam especially jindi, neerim, crossover and hillend areas. fortunately this year we have been spared the fires and its really been a damn good summer condition...

There is so much room for improvements in the ute/medium wagon T/D 4x4 area. If Mitsubishi did a challenger on rails with a 3.2 for roughly 50k they would walk off the shelves but unlikely to ever happen because it would pillage Pajero sales. Same with a pathfinder with the 6T/D but just like...

Mate, I have worked with electrical components for over 20 years so nothing surprises me with regard to electrical failure. A bloke I work with had the coil on his 441 m-tronic die on his second outing. He was pretty pissed. He sourced his locally and the dealer initially tried charging him for...

The original had the clear epoxy however the one I replaced it with that failed yesterday had the black epoxy. Exactly the same symptoms. Given the saw was sent over from the U.S. And is warranted by myself I just binned the original. The second is in the garage still. It came from the U.S. As...

No. Not on either of them. And the sessions I used them on before they died were pretty light.

I reckon it's strange as well. Both scenarios shut saw down fine from previous use day before and next day dead as a dodo!

just killed the 2nd OEM coil on my ms261 :-( gotta say the stihl coils must definately have an issue, either that or iam the unluckiest stihl user around. fortinately i had a chinese copy in the gear bag to get me out of trouble, thinking i will stick with the 20 buck specials for now.

Buying my 1st chainsaw in Australia. Should I import a saw?

Ezgo are another local ripoff merchant. Spares for their golf carts through the au website are 2 to 3 times the cost of the U.S. Site.

    MS 261 limited coil

just as a heads up I did end up getting an aftermarket ms361 coil and it worked no problem with the 261. only issue the kill cable didnt quite reach the 90 degree angled spade connector as the OEM has a 45 degree spade so I needed to make up a little extension tail with a 4.8mm quick connect...

iam thinking the aftermarket one will likely not have a rev limiter? i would be happy with 13k, just you can get a knock off 361 coild ofr about 20 bucks, a mate sent me an OEM replacement from the US for $50, where as locally they are $145!!! thinking i wouldnt mind having a spare in the kit...
