    Husky 372 chank bearing issue?

The original 372 bearings had a metal cage, which flew apart and caused damage to the engine, the metal cage was the problem, tearing apart and destroying the saw with metal wrechage, simply use the NTN bearing with the "Teflon" or plastic cage, problem over.Done it lots of times,no failures

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

Piston port motors were abandoned in the motorcycle world in the late 70's,poor low speed power, piston wear and less transfer ports. Yes a reed valve intake and a bigger carb would add a little weight to a modern falling saw, it could double power, but of course all modern manufacturers want to...

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

For some reason it had a really complicated engine overspeed mechanical governer.

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

I saw once an ancient American saw with a rotary valve, maybe the one you mention, but obviously didn't shake the world. Complicated but interesting..

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

On a 94cc saw if you had a modern reed-valve intake you could use the big HT Tillotson carb with no problems, very stock running, and gain a lot of power. Reed valve conversions generally create much more low-speed and midrange power, but done right will greatly enhance high speed power. That's...

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

Well there is "piston-port reed valve" and "crankcase reed valve". Crankcase reed valve is the much better type, but not adaptable to saws.

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

The rotary-valve intake can provide exact intake timing and make exceptional power but are too big and complicated for saws, used in some kart, motorcycle and snowmobile engines, but you can't convert one to a saw...

Reed Valves-the modern ticket to 2-stroke power

The reed valve has many advantages over it's earlier piston-ported intake power. Yamaha really pioneered reed valve intakes: piston-port reed intakes and had much success. The reed valve has a much better intake-crankcase charge and timing than a piston port, and also has much better crankcase...

The myth of high compression in 2-strokes

Well you touched on 2-stroke racing pipes(exspansion chambers),what can you tell us about that? "as flaring stuff outwards means a loss of velocity."

The myth of high compression in 2-strokes

Wow,your math is incredable, how does it equate into real engines today? How many racing engines have you designed,I mean with all your math they should beat any engines today. You've outfoxxed anyone making a 2-stroke engine today, have thrown out all timing and compression values used in today's...

    365 special / 372 big bore

Sorry if I seem like such an assh==le,but I'm just getting really old and not internet savy. I've been into 2-stroke mods since 1972 so I've seen a lot. I just get frustrated seeing people perpetuating old myths or trying to suck people in to doing mods for them. I've never asked a penny from...

The myth of high compression in 2-strokes

Well if my numbers are flawed, show me any factory racing engine that has 180 plus compression, from the 70's to now. 4-stroke engines only make compression every 2 strokes, their compression losses are halve as much. Show me any factory high performance 2-stroke where their compression is 180...

    Stihl 084 Early Oiler

The original rubber hose had problems, early in the 084 career it was common for the oil hose to come off one end or burst when the bar hole got plugged,Stihl's fix which was excellent was the tough plastic hose which solved the problem,to install it merely heat the ends with a lighter to make...

    Husqvarna 162 61 262 266 268 272 parts interchangeable?

Often there was no chrome left on the cyl. on the intake side, where all the grime came in.

    Husqvarna 162 61 262 266 268 272 parts interchangeable?

If it was really a former concrete cutting saw I would be checking the entire engine for excessive wear. Concrete and metal cutting saws are in an abrasive environment, P&C and crank wear were bad in many cases. Many factory air filters were poor and the engines didn't last long. I'd be checking...

    Yamabond 4 or 5?

Many great types of silicone, many uses but I won't use it where gasoline and pressures are involved, like 2-stroke crankcases. No factory ever did either.

    Mculloch 610 plug help

Almost all older American chainsaws used the J6-J spark plug, some plug charts may upgrade them to a J7 or even warmer J8(which was Champions plug for most small engines, even 4-stroke),J6 was the 2-stroke plug while J8 was the warmer 4-stroke plug. The "J" in the end of the nomenclature meant...

    Yamabond 4 or 5?

Well years ago I used YamaBond, then couldn't get it and went to Kawasaki Bond, seemed same stuff, then had to go get ThreeBond 1104, seems the same stuff.Unlike silicones it is impervious to gasoline and pressures, for metal to metal sealing it's perfect, for gasket delete saws it is all I'll...
