    Mini Mill made bench seat

Looks great! Your cuts look quite precise. What kind of wood is it?

    Oh No - Not again!

What rotten luck Bob. Hope you get back in business soon. Odds are thing can only get better!

    Spalted Maple Milling

The last section included a crotch. Got seven slabs, 1.5" thick. Got lucky with nice flame figure, about 2' long! This was over three days - great to spend time with Dad in the woods. Cheers!

    Spalted Maple Milling

Here is a case of mill it or lose it. This big old maple was leaning for years and finally fell down summer 2009. Maple gets buggy and rots pretty fast left on its own. Fortunately, the huge root ball kept the trunk out of the water that pools here every spring. About a month ago, I cut it...

    Tough Day Milling Elm

Amazing place to mill and you got some great looking slabs. Looks like you had to walk the plank to cut that giant crotch. Arrrr!

    OH NO ! ! ! -- another CSM meltdown

That's a good idea. I have been using some hemlock I milled as-is and you can see all the places where I got hung up or kind of pivoted through the wood. Another wacky idea could be to add longer skids to the mill to better bridge the rough edges...

    60" Bar Sag

Has anyone tried bending their bar? Put say a 1" or 2" arch in it so that in the mill it sags down to the dead flat condition. I know its a crazy idea! Just throwing it out there...

    Ms 880

My Stihl saw chain chart says the 36" bar on the 880 has 104 drive links. The 41" has 123. Fewer drive links when you jump up to 404...

Pics of old sawmill equipment in my own backyard (almost!)

Wonderful pictures, thanks. Reminds me of the remains of old cars I found in middle of an Ontario forest - surrounded by 24" dia hardwood. Takes a while for the forest to absorb an engine block, but it'll happen.

    Finished My Mill

That is really impressive work. Can you get the same same chain speed as a chainsaw? What's the HP rating of your motor? Let us know how it performs!

    Some black walnut (excited)

Good work on the slabbin'! Your furniture designs are really interesting. That link to the hydrofoil catamaran is very cool! Hey, add some foils to your Nacra and get flying! ;)

    edging logs

I use a circular saw too but I clamp on a guide to follow. I have another board cut as wide as the blade offset so it is fast to find the best place to clamp the guide. Really straight, fast, efficient and leaves a nice surface. Good for 1" and 2" stuff anyway. :givebeer:

    75 Dollar Radial Arm

Are you sure it has a negative hook blade? That is supposed to prevent the "self feeding" menace.

Spliting 50" Oak with the Mini Mill Pics

Very impressive cut. Is that full skip rip chain? I see you left a little holding wood so you could finish the job from the ground. Wouldn't want to be straddling that monster when the she lets go! :jawdrop:

    Milled a Nice Hemlock

Got a good surface finish, I won't even plane these ones. Being on the beach, I collected all the dust. Must have filled a 10 gallon bucket over 20 times! Here I line up the smallest section. The boards were quite heavy with sap, had to carry them up the hill to the drying shed- whew...

    Milled a Nice Hemlock

I cut down and milled a dying hemlock last year. This spring we had a windstorm that knocked down its neighbour. It fell on our old sailboat and crushed it. Anyway, I milled the tree last weekend and got plenty of good boards out of it. The tree fell across the beach and that is a...

    My largest chainsaw mill experience

Problem with ripping chain from Baileys

I too have had good response from Bailey's - once they sent me a couple of loops, wrong gauge. When I called, they said no need to send the wrong ones back and got me the right ones to my door in a few days. Good service - call them.

    Routine Maple Milling Fun

Thanks to my wife for the nice pics! I mill with my 660, stock except for a dual port muffler. That is a 36" bar and it pulls it quite nicely. Ah yes, the old barn - built about 1865 out of that beautiful old growth. It's a great place to dry wood.
