How to start an argument? Future of gas powered saws ?

Some things that may not be known. 1) Batteries can "dump" power into a motor fast. This is absolutely fantastic for situations where rapid power is needed. One need only look at the better quality Lithium jump starters that can crank a big Diesel stupidly fast for 10 seconds to understand...

    346xp, 357xp (firewood saw)

The 346xp ne is a fine saw. It runs perfectly, has plenty of power, revs quite nicely and so on. But, the magnesium cases don't make it a more capable saw. The cylinder and tuning do. The bottom line is that the 346 is only slightly more powerful than a strong running 345 or 350. I...

    346xp, 357xp (firewood saw)

I have a healthy running 345 and a new 346xp ne. There is little real world difference between the two. I know the specs and I know the differences. But the bottom line is that they are the same saw. With a supposed 20 percent difference in hp. If your 350 is not enough, the 346 won't be...

Ultrasonic Cleaners - What do you use?

I purchase Branson brand ultrasonic cleaners. I work in aviation and need to clean engine and gearbox filters. So, quality is a must. Interestingly enough, ultrasonic cleaners work fantastic on chains!

    Echo 21cc Trimmer Mods (SRM-210SB, GT-2000, etc)

Any more updates? I'd love to know what your predicted HP is. I'm sure the software will give you a value. Are you trying to go with practical power or is this an "all out" exercise in power production?

    Echo 21cc Trimmer Mods (SRM-210SB, GT-2000, etc)

Can I suggest 196 degrees exhaust port timing and 135 degree transfer port duration. You have no "guts" if you don't go this radical, ha ha. Of course, that would require a properly tuned chamber and case reed induction. What fun. I am totally impressed with your modification plan. Very cool...

    Echo 21cc Trimmer Mods (SRM-210SB, GT-2000, etc)

I'd love to know what port timing specs were stock and what you end up with. Also, your predicted HP. Obviously, a well tuned pipe would be best, but there are compact alternatives that may produce more power than a modified stock muffler. I had considered trying a larger volume muffler...

White death - what to do?

It is just about impossible to stop corrosion on magnesium once it gets started. Paint won't work. The corrosion is intergrannular and a surface coating will simply allow the corrosion to continue underneath. The best bet is a thick oil that can penetrate and remain there. Products like...

cat muffler mods and preformance gains?

Yes, it's very, very likely that the removal of a restrictive muffler and installation of a well tuned exhaust system will significantly increase the engine's power output. 2 strokes are sensitive to restriction. However, is a gutted cat muffler with a larger hole a well tuned exhaust...

    avgas negatives?

Yup, cujet from Dirtrider  No listing that I know of for 100VLL. However, I'd be surprised if your local pump was not 100VLL. It's been the norm for quite some time now. Please understand, I'm not making the claim that 100LL is better in a performance engine than top quality leaded...

    avgas negatives?

    1) Answer, in most areas, the recent reduction in 100LL's lead content results in far less gray in the exhaust pipe. While some areas may still have the higher lead content, it's being phased out rapidly. My personal aircraft, a Cessna 177RG, run on 100LL, won't have gray deposits in the pipe...

    avgas negatives?

FYI, the switch from leaded to unleaded fuels in the 2 stroke GP bikes resulted in a serious reduction in crankshaft bearing life. In fact, the elimination of lead was the catalyst for the development of significantly better 2 stroke oils. The EG-D oils. You won't find significant deposits...

    avgas negatives?

One more thing. Avgas is consistent. It does not change from batch to batch, location to location or seasonally. So, once you are properly jetted and tuned, you are good to go. It's an advantage that is not possible with pump gas, as the blends change seasonally and the ethanol content varies...

    avgas negatives?

There is quite a bit of misinformation about 100LL Avgas. I'll try to address some of this. 1) Avgas contains lead. However, recent modifications to 100LL (under the very same specification) have resulted in a product known as 100VLL (very low lead) It's what is generally available at Avgas...

Got me a new 346XP to replace my 345

Thanks guys. If I can ask you to be more specific, that would be a big help. If I choose a 3/8 chain, do I need to change the clutch sprocket due to different chain link spacing? Or do I simply choose a bar and chain combo? Also, what specific 3/8 chain/bar combo do you suggest? As I...

Got me a new 346XP to replace my 345

Thanks for the replies. The 345 loved the Stihl RS chain, but did not perform nearly as well with the RSC. The H30 performs on par with the RSC. I used the saw a bunch yesterday, so it's well on it's way to being broken in. I'll probably have to lean it out a bit, as it's 4 stroking just...

Got me a new 346XP to replace my 345

So, I finally got annoyed with the repairs on my 13 year old Husqvarna 345. It's been a great saw, and has plenty of power. Plus the piston is perfect and it has great compression. But, there are issues, mostly due to significant use. So, I go to the local dealer and pick up a brand new...

    Husky 345 chain oiler question

Oh yeah, it's clean. The pump is pumping oil, maybe not as much as I'd like, but it's working. The real problem is that it does not oil the bar and chain, but comes out under the metal plate. Probably due to a crack or poor seal.

    Husky 345 chain oiler question

My drive gear looks fine. Are they different with the adjustable pump? Also, looking on Bailey's parts list, the oil pump is the same part number for both saws. How did you get the "right" one? Thanks Chris

    Husky 345 chain oiler question

I've been repairing my old 345. I've found out that my chain is not getting enough oil. Most of it simply comes out under the metal plate. So, I tried a good cleaning of the oil pump and related parts. Did not help. I really can't tell why the rubber seal is not sealing. Other than to think...
