Sounds like a bearing issue. I'd pull the cylinder first and remove all debris as any metal in the cylinder can damage the plating in just a few strokes. The cyl can be reinstalled if needed to pull clutch or flywheel ( I'd remove rings first ). I'd split it and do seals/brgs. As far as the cyl...

look for early 61 practica/rancher clutch. Also if you have or find a worn or broken coarse clutch with a good spider you can use fine thread shoes and springs from the same style clutch. Ken

3M makes a two part putty I think Mastermind used the alum.version in the 661 intakes. I've used the steel version bedding rifle actions, it's very tuff stuff and expensive. Ken

What make of piston and clip ? what position was clip installed ?

088 is 13mm

Run the piston up near tdc insert soft rope into plug hole then rotate the crank. Should pop it up. Ken

Deets the last 2yrs out here they been checking exhaust on everything. FS and Fish & Game are the worst ! The standard screen test in the field is if a ball point pen tip passes thru the screen it's to big. Ken

Try vac/pres test with saw on it's nose just to rule out leak between oil tank and crankcase that oil will seal off until saw goes nose down or on it's side with gasket up. Found one last year that was a chronic leaker, now I end all my vac/pres tests in this position. Ken
