Cool! can you show it sometime? I'm a big fan of the H&S claws, really heavy duty stuff. Not so common for Stihls at all, more often seen on the McCulloch and Homelite gear drives.

I agree that the sprocket is very likely from another saw that was intended to run this chain. Still quite well made in that case. I bet an original cover would still fit that saw. In the craigslist ad they specifically mention the chain is Oregon # 16, so it must be 5/8". Although that chain...

They sure are fun to skip through, these old document even smell like 1965 :p The price of a Lightning-G translates to about $2,918 today, seems accurate ;) I don't know if I will ever scan this one. It would require that the pages are separated, which I'd rather not do to preserve it. I can...

Here's another old Stihl document. Prices in 1965: I though this page was interesting in particular. The 9C24L part could be the West coast spikes. Never saw any IPL mention them, but it may yet be an official part. I wish we could still order them :( impossible to find now.

Here is one flyer that calls the super versions D-24. Still not sure if these document are Stihl official though. They do have a Stihl address printed on them but also mention a 72" bar option. I don't believe there was a 72" bar for the Lightning (although I would like to be proven wrong). On...

Want to Buy Stihl 090G Sprocket Washers

Thanks for making the untreated option available also. I would then like two (2) untreated washers. One for the 090G and one as a backup. Once again, super cool that you made these

Want to Buy Stihl 090G Sprocket Washers

Vince, I was wondering, will this treatment make them look as in this pic? (bit of a golden glow) If that is the case, could I also order one without treatment? I have an old model 090G for which I think bare metal would suit better (soo the part doesn't look "too new"). I'm not too worried...

Want to Buy Stihl 090G Sprocket Washers

Wow Vince! Those look fantastic. ...and no time was wasted making them either. That was quick! Thanks for helping out the Stihl gear drive camp.

Want to Buy Stihl 090G Sprocket Washers

After you mentioned this, I had to compared my Lightning G IPLs. There is indeed a difference in how the washer was held in place! Hadn't noticed that before. One IPL shows the clip like you mentioned, with the washer's part # being 1109 642 7800. The other IPL show the nut, and the washer's...

Want to Buy Stihl 090G Sprocket Washers

    Ok, here are the measurements of my washer. Let's name them A - F: A: B: C: D: E: F: This is what I measure: A = 45.0 mm B = 10.0 mm C = 27.0 mm D = 1.25 mm E = 38.0 mm F = 4.5 mm If I forgot something important, let me know. The saw is still "disassembled" for measurements. It...

I'm also in need of one of these. If it helps, I can measure the one on my Lightning.

Thus far only on the 070 model. This is the first 090, very interesting. I believe I read somewhere that the very early models still used the contra decal. Did you get this saw?

Want to Sell Stihl 090G / Contra Lightning G, Bar cover

The pins are called "Kerbnagel" in Germany (DIN 1476). They are still readily available on ebay.de, so if you have trouble finding them closer by I could probably help with those. The guide plate might be tricky in those quantities. I can see only a handful of originals, the rest are...

I'm also pretty sure this is not the way Stihl had intended. If you check post #522 from this thread, you'll see that member pioneer saws has a service shop manual for the Contra-Lightning. It's the only one I know of but at the time he had not scanned it. You could ask him to check if that...

    Stihl Contra Info Sharing Thread

When I put mine back together I have been pondering how to set the timing correct again as well (the difficulty being that the spark plug hole is at an angle). After a lot of reading I used the following proceedings. Screw something longer than the spark plug (I used part of my timing dial...

Cool! I hadn't noticed yet that you uploaded that pic. Is your saw of this generation (07 spikes, different/smaller sprocket cover and green hose)?: I wonder if that's the first version they made. My earliest manual/IPL is from 12-64 and that version is already newer that the one shown in...

It used to be the other way around I think (based on old threads) but the 404 is readily available while the 1/2" is not. http://www.ebay.com/itm/STIHL-090-090G-CHAINSAW-CHAIN-DRIVE-SPROCKET-404-NEW-1109-642-1310-BOX365-/360636629874?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53f79e4372 I don't know if...

Any (leftover) 1/2" sprockets or just the gears? As for the Toolkit, I tried to find images and all I could come up with are these It has the correct logo but might be an 08S set as well. I have also seen an olive green one which may have been for the Bundeswehr version. I guess the...
