Three Cord Wood Shed-Looking for ideas

Here are 2 that I did. I picked my size based on the size of the pallets 9' x 13' with a 6' back wall (that's how tall I am). Each roughly about 5.5 cords of wood, I think... All the materials were scrap from work after a new production line we installed. Also the same place materials came from...

    Wifi Controlled Thermostat

Sounds like a good set up. Get the WiFi stat and you'll no longer show up to a chilly cabin. Also with the WiFi stat you can set up email notifications. Say your heating system failed and the temp dropped below a set point or power failed. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

    Wifi Controlled Thermostat

I've got the Honeywell WiFi. I've got it set up for 2 heating systems. If the boiler drops temp to much the aux (lp) kicks in. You can also just switch on lp (aux) if needed. I looked at doing the 2 thermostat way, but figured out how to make this work for me with just one stat. Sent from my...

    Wifi Controlled Thermostat

I have one and it works great. I set mine up to work with my OWB and lp furnace. I can monitor my house temp all day and if I'm gone for an extended period of time I can switch to lp. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

    OWB Annual Consumption?

Last winter was my first with my homemade boiler. I figure I burned about 10 cords if my figuring is right (doubtful though). Some good seasoned stuff, some work skids, and some I don't want to talk about. But I kept my house at a consistent temp the whole time. Sq footage aside, the way I see...

Thanks so much. I think it was a little difficult to think about how it would all come together. Once I got rolling I did not want to stop. I say if you can start scrounging some materials you just go for it. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Well thanks. Something I've been wanting to do some time now. The pipe extended down has worked pretty good I think. I'm sure it's not like have a baffle but it makes the smoke work a little harder to get out. Which may make a lil more smoke when I open the door if I don't crack it first and let...

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

All that scrounge firewood. Called about an add on Craig's list last week and got in touch with a tree service. He said he'd just let me know when and where he had wood for me. I'm just wondering from those that scrounge, how far they will drive for free wood. This is something different I'm...

Thanks! I looked into buying. Figured if this don't work out I have all the piping and what not done. If all else fails I can just toss it in the scrap pile and put a bought unit in. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Last winter it was right around the 10 cord mark. That's just a rough guess. I kinda had wood laying all over trying to get a good system down for the first year. Planning on a wood shed as soon as I get home after the holiday weekend. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Only heating about 1800 sq ft house. The garage is just heated up when needed. A full fill will get me 24hrs+ but I try to just put enough wood in for 12 hours between checking on it. I've never had the ability to keep my house at 70° all winter and it was awesome! Sent from my XT1254 using...

Total cost was right around $1500. That was for all install parts. Pex, fittings, insulation for pex, side arm, furnace heat exchangers x2, pumps and misc stuff one never thinks of. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

    Homemade OWB (Picture Heavy)

Yes, just carbon steel. Only 1 season in but no issues yet. I haven't done a baffle yet. I ran the pipe low in the boiler in hopes the smoke would have to work a little harder to get out. I think about it from time to time, then i crack a beer...

    Homemade OWB (Picture Heavy)

Completed. Completely insured and ready to heat. Gravel around the unit per insurance man. After my first season i had no issues. I added a little expansion tank to the top to ensure the firebox stayed completely submerged. I also added another section of class A chimney to keep and smoke on the...
