well i ordered another coil and tore in to the 290 again,it all looked good until i slid the grommet down on the wire and found the problem pic included but it might take me another year to figure this pic downloading out,replaced the coil and she runs great as far as ms290's run,thanks for the...

man,that close up looks real bad,i'm wondering if you have discovered an ongoing problem,i have seen a few 290's that friends of mine had that had scored pistons,and i know they had the correct fuel mix,i doubt that they had them retuned other than what they came set at the factory:confused:

there is a seller on fleabay selling new stihl long blocks for around $150 you can get U.S. cast or mahle.

well i replaced the needle and set the lever to the stihl manual specs,runs real good and then will quit,still fouls plug out out,i have another 290 that runs great,i might try swapping the carb and see what happens ??:confused:
