Holzhausens are the beehive things. They take a little longer in my opinion but are easy enough to do. It can be a good way of going up more and out less. Plus they are stable if you have young kids, it's one less thing to worry about.
My two tree guys, drop off longer logs - average lengths are probably around 7'-8'. The longer the logs, the happier I am. I'm glad they both have 20-30 yard dump body trucks with knuckle booms.
Yes, black gum. Absolutely miserable to split! It doesn't split, it just tears. I wouldn't want that if someone cut it to 16" and dropped it off in my yard. Burns fair.
I stopped in my local small engine shop a few days before Christmas and asked for the 390. Sadly, I was told it wouldn't be in until mid January....I ordered a 24" and 36" bar for it.
So sorry to hear this. I only knew him through this site but he was one of the reasons I’ve stuck around with all of the keyboard warriors this site has drawn. He always found a way to keep it calm and relaxed. I’m sure he was a truly great man to those who knew him personally
But if the smaller splits season quicker (which we know they do) less heat is wasted on boiler moisture out of the wood so more heat is gained. You can close off air more and increase your overall burn times
After spending some time looking at the Husky web page, I have a question for people who know more about saws than me (which isn’t hard by the way). Why are some saws considered to be better at felling and some considered better for bucking?
