    Bought a new trailer

sweet new trailer, I see it has already been put to good use. Nice score. Tough to say what you could get for the old one. I watch CL for trailers among other things, and prices are all over the place.

Help needed from experienced locust burners

I dont know if the photos will work, that is the first time I have tried. But where I scrounged all my wood this year I was told that this was Honey Locust. It had no thorns on it, and I admit to not seeing much of whatever this is around our parts. I have a bunch of Black locust, which this...

River birch and sycamore for firewood

I have a fair amount of River Birch here but it does not get very big in diameter. So i either split it and use it for kindling, or leave them in rounds up to 5 or 6" around and burn them. They give off some great heat but burn away fast when split so leaving them in rounds gives them a little...

New to the site and new to wood burning

Hello and have fun I love the fact that the wood is stacked around the buck mounts and over the fridge! I reckon you probably belong here.

What do you all use for kindling?

Another nod to good ole white pine. After a year or two split and stacked in milk crates I barely need paper. I bring it in a crate at a time as needed, keeps it clean and therefore the Mrs happy. Seems she can never have enough kindling around.

Best time to drop healthy tree for firewood seasoning

I am looking forward to having some time in the cold weather this year to do some work. For us here we have had deep snow cover from before Christmas till March the last 3 years. Not nearly the worst of situations but it does shorten the enjoyable time I have to split. I too refuse to split...

Best time to drop healthy tree for firewood seasoning

Thanks for the info. Each year I promise myself that I will get a year ahead, this year I have a good start. I at least have 1.5 cords of Red Oak that will have sat spilt for two years before I burn it. Tough for me to find an area to store another 8-9 cords out in the open for next year, i...

Best time to drop healthy tree for firewood seasoning

At what time of year would you take down a healthy Northeast hardwood tree with the intention of speeding the drying time? I just always seem to have Father Time playing against me in the firewood game. I usually take my trees down/scrounge like a bandit in Dec-Jan and split through the...

How do you gather your firewood?

I get a bunch of wood each year from my area golf courses. Just ask the superintendent what he does with the wood, almost all of them cut trees each winter. Its like repeat business. I do good work, keep everything clean, take whatever hes got, and they almost all call me back each year when...

So I have to ask, who's not buring yet and just waiting.

Ive been burning quite a bit. My only complaint is that I cant put away any shorts and tank tops. it is 78 in the house right now, and I am sitting by the open window. Oh well, all the thermostats are in the off mode. Fine by me For some reason my kids cant figure out why they are so...

    New Look for Old Axe

Wilson, I believe that it is probably possible to save your other axe heads. no matter how badly they may be damaged, they can be brought back to life. I make knives as a hobby, and have learned a fair amount of the heat treating process necessary to produce a quality edge. You can file away...

You know you heat with wood when.....

When you hear your older child explaining to the younger who just started 1st grade that "although all of the work you do at school is beautiful, there is only so much room on the fridge, and construction paper starts a really good fire. when you hear that dreaded sound of the furnace, you...

I am in Glocester RI, I go up through Franklin weekly. Lots of tree damage around our area from the storms. Going to get a truck load now before work.

    Another one looking to join

Hello all Just another guy who enjoys splitting and burning wood. I have been looking around for awhile, and enjoy the banter, so i figured i might join in. The formalities: I burn 7-8 cords a year which I scrounge first, cut off my own property when needed. I burn with two wood stoves...
