anyone have any luck buy a chainsaw at auction.

Stihls at auctions here sell for almost new prices. Most are abused 029/290's that have been beat like a Grand Canyon mule. They also could be 180's or 250's in similar condition. Same goes for pawn shops around here. And people pay for them.

What is your mechanical history and aptitude?

KSU. Yeah, there were a few of those. You have to show them which end of a screwdriver to use. I was fixing things since i was young.

    Bailey's Catalog 2014

The painfully slow website killed my order with Bailey's. It took over an hour to browse a few items I was interested in. Finally I exited their site with a few items still in my shopping cart.

What is your mechanical history and aptitude?

So many stories like mine. I took everything apart as a kid too. Now I'm a mechanical engineer and make a good living designing stuff. I've never been afraid to take something apart. I save a ton of money fixing things myself.

    Who's Feelin Less Vibes ??

Echo CST-610 Twin was the smoothest saw I've ever ran. Homelite XL series are definitely not though.

    Is this worth fixing?

Buy a new crank, ship the saw to me, and I'll fix it send it back if you pay shipping both ways. No charge for labor.

Does wife/signficant other influence saw purchases?

If she thinks I'm spending too much on saws, she'll even the score by going shoe shopping.

    Stihl 015 question: Clutch drum/Rim

I sent my last set of matching sprocket/worm gear off to another guy needing one. I doubt I could dig up another one but I'll look. Scott at Chainsawr. (site sponsor) might have one.

    Stihl 015 question: Clutch drum/Rim

The drum and plastic oil pump drive worm gear need to be replaced together as the sprocket teeth must match the plastic drive thingy.

    The cheapest saw ever

+1 for the Chinese homelites. A close second would be the Chinese Macs. Some Earthquakes are better built than the current homies and macs.

I agree those chains look silly. I assumed they made that silly skip for cost reasons. Fewer cutters = less cost. Most homeowners are not going to notice any difference in performance.

Have Any Issues w/Stihl BG86 Blower? Adjustment Problems!

The Chinese Zama carbs are junk right outta the box. Stihl puts them in everything now because they own Zama. Get an older BG86 or buy a new Echo. My BG86 runs great but it's an older model.

    shop time

I worked part time at a small engine shop for a number of years as a mechanic and can tell you a good counter person is valuable for filtering thru those customers that the OP described. If every customer is allowed back in the service shop, then nothing gets done, too much BS'ing and not...

    found a minty 10mm 044 today

Wildthangs always start, don't they? Nice 440, BTW. I just finished building a 440 Mag today and it was beat like a Grand Canyon mule. It ran good, but looked like hell.
