    Sold Husqvarna 242 - $260 Shipped!!!!

Nice looking little saw that looks to be in good shape. In the pictures, it does appear that it is missing the inner bar plate. They are available in Germany on ebay there pretty reasonably, or at least they were last year.

This saw responds really well to a base gasket delete and .010" off the flywheel key also.

    Husqvarna 242 Clutch Wear Limit?

I have a Husqvarna 242xp with the old style two shoe clutch. I am trying to locate the wear limit on the clutch. Is there a minimum diameter I can measure?

What's your favourite smallest handy chainsaw ?

I will put in a vote for the 242xp. It is nice and light to carry around and trim brush and saplings. 15,500 rpm is fun.

The Oregon File Guide modded for square filing

Yep to your first question. The way I did it was to look on feebay for one of the old Nygrans with the notches that hold a double bevel file. That has worked pretty well. Very occasionally, one of the Granberg G-107's shows up as well. That is the factory square filing jig that allows you to...

    Need a little help porting a 346

Thanks much to you Ironworker for asking the question and to you Brad for the pictures of how you attack this cylinder. I have some time off work around Christmas so I think I will use some of it whittling on my 346 cylinder using these instructions.

    Problematic MS661

Will your saw run properly with the parts you removed from his saw to install your parts? If it won't, then the offending component is still hiding somewhere on your chassis. Candidates could include seals. I don't know how the flywheel could cause the symptoms you are experiencing, but you...

how to run .058 guage on a stihl

It might be easier to squeeze down a .063 bar using a bar rail closer to fit the .058 chain. Then there would be no nose sprocket issue. Replacement tips for two piece bars are .063 anyway, at least for the .325 speed tip bars.

    Husqvarna 44 Tuning help

You can seal off the exhaust port and the intake port with a patch cut from a plastic ziplock bag. Cut a square big enough to cover the opening and bolt holes for each port. Remove the muffler or carburetor, cut holes for the bolts in the plastic, reassemble everything with the plastic...

    Husqvarna 44 Tuning help

This behavior does really remind me of my 242. The root cause on it was that the crank seals had gotten hard and weren't sealing. You can do a vacuum/pressure test to see what is going on. Alternatively, skip the fiddling around and just figure that the seals have served their lifespan and...

    Husqvarna 44 Tuning help

I had a similar situation on a 242xp and it turned out to be that the crank seals had fossilized. They are neoprene so they will harden over time. I agree that you need a carb kit, and second the advice that you do the vacuum/pressure test. Alternatively, you might just add the seals and a...

Depth Gauge Tools for Saw Chain

Thanks much. The reason I put the drawing out this morning was to see if anybody with a 3-D printer might be interested in making a batch. Before I thought of this approach, I tried the feeler gauge method and the digital angle finder. This little gizmo is much faster and easier to use than...

Depth Gauge Tools for Saw Chain

Here you go. It just lays on top of the cutter teeth. If the depth gauge is high, it rocks and won't sit flat on top of the teeth. You can take a swipe with a flat file and check again. I used to use the digital angle finder, but this is much faster. I tried to make it long enough to work...
