    Thinking of trying amsoil saber

Don't get me wrong, I like Amsoil better than Mobil 1 too. What bothers me is that Amsoil used to be very clear about their use of PAO base stock. Now they aren't. Whether they are going the same route as Mobil, Castrol and a host of others producing "synthetic" oil from mineral base stock is...

    Too much start/stop = overheat?

    Too much start/stop = overheat?

Diesels are fine to run constantly under load but when they idle for extended periods they can run too cool which causes incomplete combustion which in turn can cause the unburned fuel to run down the cylinder walls and dilute the oil. it also increases carbon buildup. Diesel engine idling...

    Too much start/stop = overheat?

I agree with the just let it idle concept. It will help keep the saw at running temp and save your starter from more wear. I do this with everything, air or liquid cooled. The only exceptions are diesels which I shut off if they'll be idling for longer than a few minutes. I assume you...

    Thinking of trying amsoil saber

I'm aware of what Amsoil is. If you reread my post you'll see that I'm referring to synthetic oils in general. I use Amsoil in everything and will contiinue to do so. However, they used to be very clear about their use of PAO base stock but have now switched to wording very similar to what...

    Thinking of trying amsoil saber

To be clear to anyone reading this thread, it should be noted that all synthetic oils are not created equally. This thread is about Amsoil Saber and it should not be taken that that means another "synthetic" oil will perform the same way. I'm not saying that there aren't other good synthetics...

Me neither but maybe it's the same reasoning people use when filling up Porsches with no-name regular gas.

    MS 261 vs MS 261 C-Q

Yeah, sorry. I finally lost it. I'll try to do better in the future.

    MS 261 vs MS 261 C-Q

I bought an MS261 around Christmas. I love it. Not so much for sawing but for bench pressing. It's really helping me bulk up my upper body. As for sawing, once I get my wife to help me get it up on the wood and start 'er up, she just sails through the cut. I think all that weight really...

    Backup/loaner saw which one.

I don't borrow or lend tools...period. It's a real quick way to screw up a relationship with just about anybody. i broke the rule a couple of years ago and lent my little Mac 2016 to a neighbor. He brought it back out of gas, out of oil and the chain was stretched so bad it literally fell off...

    50:1 vs 40:1

Copper absorbs heat faster than aluminum but gives it off more slowly. This is from my experience with heat sinks on electronics. It's fairly common to see a heat sink with copper against the hot surface with aluminum cooling fins mated to it.

Why so many Husky 455s refurbished on Ebay?

I bought one and it arrived with the rear handle broken off. The box from the factory relies on the side handle stuck in a slot of cardboard to hold the saw in place. If the relatively thin cardboard rips or moves away from the saw, the saw is free to travel end to end in the box. The handle...

Wimpy saw Not turning over - 2.1 eager beaver

I'd bet it's chain oil hydro locking it too. Just keep pulling it over while it's upside down to get the oil out. You could put a little gas in the plug hole and rinse it out too. let it dry out and try it again. I have an old Silver Eagle that can do that when stored for extended periods.

Is baileys online super super slow for anyone else?

I agree that this not an isolated incident or a server maintenance issue, the site has always been slow for me too. I often avoid it completely due to the time it takes just to browse through looking for something. I tend to blame it on the choice of host the servers are running on but the IT...

    Got a new MS261 today!

I bought a new MS261 in Dec. and have only had a chance to cut up one tree so far. My usage will really start in the spring so I'm holding off for now. As was mentioned, I'd really hate to have to take it to a dealer after I'd fooled around with it. Beside, the thing is no slouch right out of...

    Breaking News: Operation Flippy Cap.

If that turned out to be true, who do you think would end up paying the $750,000 per tank? Might be a good time to pick up a Flippy cap Stihl before the prices rise...

Muriatic acid treatment on cyl video

As a side note to this, I always store muriatic acid outside. Even though the container is sealed, the stuff will attack steel anywhere nearby. I made the mistake of storing some in a metal shed and it ate the paint off the roof over the shelf and rusted a patch before i spotted it. Many of...

Has anyone tried to "colortune" a chainsaw?

Hi guys. New here but not really new. :smile2: If you used the colortune with an adapter wouldn't it increase the volume of the cylinder and thereby decrease the comp ratio? It probably wouldn't make a big difference on a big engine but on something as small as a saw might it effect accuracy?
