Is Richard Mumford still making the SAKA?

I've been fine tuning my homemade rope walker system, and finally decided to go with something already made. The SAKA looks like the best thing going. Is he still making them; where do I order it? Also can I send him a Croll to build it with? Thanks

    SRT question

If I was going to climb for a hunt I'd tie in with a split tail tied directly to my harness and a Blake's, then use a foot loop tied into a microscender. I would advance slowly to avoid sweating, and be careful to not break any twigs on the way up, but first I'd practice before daylight in a...

What causes a tree to barber chair

Yep this thread is definitely starting to look like a train wreck.

    Oozing spots on Red Oak

Compression side of limbs; would that be the underside? May be when insects spawned.

    Oozing spots on Red Oak

Yea, the Sap Suckers don't leave much slime flux.

    Oozing spots on Red Oak

I've seen that on an Oak before, thought it was normal for them. I couldn't agree with myself 100% that it was the YBSS. Maybe something the tree is trying to get ride of, maybe high mineral content; did any of the cuts turn blackish blue when you cut them? Google turned up this...heerrrmmm...

    Oozing spots on Red Oak

Pustules of dried Slime Flux?! Oh no, not that!!! Do you know what this means???! It means that the Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker likes Slime Flux(whatever that is).

Another newbie with a bunch of questions

Hmmm Echo pole saw.....$600 x 3 = $1800 since last year. :wtf: I bought a Bolens weed eater for $100 and it's made me $1800 since last month. On one job, I burnt the weed eater up, but it had a replacement warranty(3 months for commercial use),so I'm not really out of anything, if only the...

I hope you have a chipper.

    Keep it simple?

I used to do 175 ft rappels on that stuff. Doubled of course, on a snap biner. I was nuts once, and young.

    Keep it simple?

Most of the rope you by from "sports gear shops" is dynamic and has way too much stretch in it(for arborist work). Climbing on such rope wastes energy, because the rope stretches as you climb, sort of like climbing a bungee, but if you fall it acts as a shock absorber so you don't get snapped...

    Keep it simple?

A splice is stronger than a knot. You could(once you learn how) make your own splices.

What causes a tree to barber chair

Bore cuts are used on leaners to prevent barber chairing due to the tree falling before the back cut is finished. With the bore cut you can do a proper back cut, then release the holding wood, so the tree begins falling with a proper hinge instead of with a half finished back cut. I've tried...

Treated myself to a new saw

He just put it there for the pic, cause he doesn't want us to see all the Mexicans in the back.

Stihl MS 271 or Echo CS 590

    I haven't bought it yet.

Stihl MS 271 or Echo CS 590

Every company talks a big talk, and Stihl is no exception; however, the one that puts 5 times the warranty on their product is the one who has 5 times the confidence in their product. I'm not going to complain about the price being lower.

Stihl MS 271 or Echo CS 590

With a 5 year home owner - 1 year commercial warranty I'm not too concerned. Stihl only has a 3 month commercial warranty. That speaks volumes to me.
