    Masterminded 395xp working in Australia

Nice yellow box. That'll keep someone in primo firewood for a while. Even green, that's some hard, dense wood.

The truth about Auto-Tune and M-Tronic

I've got 9 months on a 576AT. I use it for firewood - 10 tonnes so far this year - and mainly run a 24" bar with Stihl semi-chisel chain. I've run it back to back with a mate's 372XP and the 372 feels better in the hands without a doubt. But I didn't buy the saw to swing it around like a...

Nice to see some big Huskies getting a run. Is there anything like a 'standard' setup these guys are using? The bars look pretty short for the size of the powerhead, but I can understand why.

What species of timber were you using, if you don't mind me asking? Bloody impressive effort to knock the posts out in 5 minutes. Respect!

    576 AT Muffler Removal??

Roger that - it's a 5mm. And FYI, don't mix up the screws that anchor into the case with the ones that anchor into the cylinder. The cylinder bolts - on my saw at least - had a fractionally narrower head to let them fit down the tube. The cylinder bolts will fit in the case holes, but not vice...

    Happy easter

Cheers! Just took the boy down to the chook shed to 'discover' some easter eggs among the regular eggs. He's wolfing down the first of many as I type. Whether you're celebrating the resurrection, the coming of the Northern spring, or the last long weekend for months, have a good one, and enjoy...

Mastermind Meets The 576XP Auto Tune

Any thoughts or observations on the design or build quality of the saw?

    Let's see your husqvarna

My saws: the 576 XPAT, and the now very neglected 455 Rancher. My rifle: sporterised Husqvarna M38 in 6.5 x 55 Swedish calibre, slick action, lovely to shoot and a lot more accurate than the guy shooting it. :msp_biggrin:

Mastermind Meets The 576XP Auto Tune

I've been waiting for a 576XPAT thread like this ever since joining the site. Mine hauls in stock form - very interested to see where you can take one.

Chainsaw buying advice badly needed ???

Hi JCool! Whereabouts in Oz are you? Some info for you - hope it helps. IMHO, if you're only going to have one saw for blocking up Aussie hardwoods for firewood, it should be able to pull a 20-inch 3/8 chain with authority. I run a 24" for the most part, but I also have an 18" saw for the...

    Who's got a 576xp autotune

I've got put about 10 tanks through mine - loving it. Running a 24' Powermatch bar and full chisel Oregon chain for the moment. Mainly cutting local eucalyptus - Manna gum, stringybark, messmate, peppermint and candlebark. So far, it's totally stock, but I think it'll get a muffler mod in the...

A day out with the young bloke

My little fella is too young to be handling the saw, but that doesn't stop him getting out amongst it and lending a hand. He's even got the pint-sized Peltor earmuffs and safety glasses! Family affair for us - 3 generations taking a break from blocking up red box.

    Stihlmans Wood,Tree cutting ramblings...........

Interesting comparison. I was cutting some bone dry red box up at my parents' farm a couple of weeks ago with my 576 autotune. Brand new chain on it, and the sawdust was... well, dust. Even compared to other Ozzy hardwoods like stringy, mountain ash or peppermint, the boxes and redgums are in...

    homemade tools of the job??

OK... On a smaller scale, but no less useful. My bench-mount 'stump vice' style bar vice. I fabbed it out of some scrap bar and a 1/2" bolt. The box section shank slots... ...into a matching receiver screwed to each side of the bench... ...allowing me to clamp the bar of my...

well i had nothing better too do

Well... It's nice in theory, but in practice it doesn't amount to much. Firewood gathering is prohibited until March (I think) and the DSE aren't happy about the permits going, so they are cutting back on the firewood coupes. The coupes tend to be pretty sh!t wood to be honest, and the tracks...

well i had nothing better too do

Yeah sorry - I threadjacked you. When someone asks 'does it get cold enough for fires' in Oz I just can't help myself. Round here the question might be better put as 'does it get warm enough to let the fire go out'!! Nice to see what some other Victorians are up to on this site. tim

well i had nothing better too do

I'm in the Central Highlands in Victoria - ie 'down south' - and we burn for at least 6 months of the year. Winters are cold here - cold enough for snow a few days a year. The fire gets lit in March/April and stays lit nearly 24/7 until at least October. Fortunately, I live in the middle of the...
