I see you're new here so you must not know, pics or it didn't happen:popcorn:

    Wood Stove vs. Wood Furnace

A stoves advertised square footage is a near worthless figure. At least go see a stove specialist, I've regretted my big box stove ever since I bought it. Times were tough and it was all I could afford, 4 yrs later it's a rusty eyesore that I still use to heat with. The next will not come...

Switching to Ethanol Free Gas...any problems?

Not sure it would hurt the gov, only the liberals feelings. With the subsidies the gov gives eth, it would help them if we could lay off that crap. The only people hurt would be the farmers and eth producers. corn is food not fuel!

Some Free Ash & Shagbark Hickory

That superfine borer dust sucks ballz in the house. Hickory is good wood but leaves tons of ash in the stove. And if you're splitting that stuff by hand, a pile is measured by how many beers it takes around here. LOL. ie, that pile was a 6 pack:laugh:

    un seasoned

Sounds like you need a wood shed. Seasoned wood that is wet is as worthless as green wood. Evidently you're still fightin that epa stove you love so much. :poke: Would the old smoke dragon burn that wet stuff without a fight?

long burn times in tiny stoves ?

I use oak or hickory either in rounds or split blocks in as big of pieces as I can get through the door. 5 1/2" +/- X 8" X 16" usually burn all night for me. I put them on a good hot bed of coals and let them get going before i damper down.

    Log Amount Question

We could go back and forth forever, but the bottom line is getting straight sticks is about like burning telephone poles. I've done a few more than a few experiments. And if you are believing the seller selling "X" than I've got all kinds of stuff for sale. Firewood sellers have a rep for...

    Log Amount Question

Have you ever heard of the 20 cord loads of logs that turn into 17-18? I've never heard of anybody getting more firewood out of a measured load of logs.

    Log Amount Question

Cutting to length and stacking will be more efficient than full length logs(unless they are perfectly straight and neatly packed). Cut, split, and stacked in your rig will be the most efficient way to haul your wood.

    A better explanation...

Just an idea... have you tried smaller splits oriented with more air space? This is what I have to do when it's arctic out. Bigger splits don't put out enough heat fast enough and without the airspace between them the coals tend to pile up on me.

Firewood in Fencerows - post your tips, tricks, and timesavers!

Go after the biggest trunks without limbs. If you have limited time to get it go for all of the biggest stuff first, it adds up the fastest. The tops do all add up but are not the most efficient way to pile up the firewood. And leave that maple alone...just get the oak.

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

I wish it was my property. I just have the pleasure of cutting out there. It's over 40 acres. 2 years ago a storm came through and tore down/topped 30+ trees like this. The owner came to me asking if I wanted some wood because he saw my stacks of firewood. I about fell over when I went out...

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

Yeah she's a dumper. It's a contractor style split fold down side as well. And it is a bit high, good thing I'm 6'4" or I'd pickin the logs up over my head. I put in 3 1/2 hrs to get about 2 cords in the truck from the standing tree without any help. I could get a skid steer out to help...

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

Thanks, had the ole girl for a while now. She'll take 8 tons comfortably, 6 1/2 tons legal, and I've learned not to put 10-12 tons on her because springs are not cheap or fun to change. Good thing wood ain't that heavy. I have no desire to load more than 2 cord at a time by hand, especially...

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

Oh yeah, it was all fun and games until I had to load it up. The water is flowing up into the trees now, the hickory was almost bleeding.

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

In anything over 8-10" I mark each cut with a painted stick with chalk or hatchet. I'm kinda anal on the length. Nice straight logs I almost feel bad for not sellin the burr oak to the mill, would have been an easy $150-$200 bucks. I like straight grain wood for myself, this will be for me in...

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

I made it out and dropped these two trees. The hickory on the left was about 20" in diameter, the oak was around 30". Second and third pic the saw(MS361) on the oak stump has a 25" bar on it. Wouldn't quite fit in the truck, over 2 cords. Goin back in the morning for another load. I am wore...

    smaller dawgs?

If you cut trees with deep bark(more prevalent on BIG trees) you will need those big dawgs. Buy a bigger bar if you need more length.
