MS-362 Muffler Mod - pics and info

One post to bring back and old thread - my MS362 - running like a champ more than FOUR YEARS LATER. Cutting huge pines the last couple years to clear out the hardwoods on the near side of the stream bed. Muffler Mod worked; runs cooler, good throttle response and rips with a 20" bar (although...

MS-362 Muffler Mod - pics and info

I pulled the muffler off my old 036 and had all kinds of gunk and crusty nasties break loose - I didn't want to make that kind of mess that close to the cylinder. From what I read last year, I was under the impression pulling that muffler was a pain. Noted for future reference - pull the...

MS-362 Muffler Mod - pics and info

You guys missed the part where I greased the the screen (fully covered) and the screw hole was covered also - I didn't want to ding the screw so it wouldn't be able to be removed. I also minimally opened the exhaust port when I put the compressor to the plug hole. Then when I got some grease...

MS-362 Muffler Mod - pics and info

I think I'm really good now. First I ran the saw and messed with the idle - I got it down some, I may play with it more but I've got excellent throttle response and no stalling - I'll see how it does in the summer I think. Next I went way rich until it burbled and brought it back - "As close...

MS-362 Muffler Mod - pics and info

I thought about pulling the muffler, but realized the 362 doesn't have the baffles like a 361 does, just the outlet hole was tiny. I did read about that - the 80% rule, but didn't want to get too crazy. The wood test is next - Tuesday I think. I would love to put the H cap back in. but I...

MS-362 Muffler Mod - pics and info

Well, I did it, my saw is out of warranty (by a week) - so I took the dremel to it. First, you only need a Tungsten Carbide bit (9903) no pic, I tried a different cutter at first - complete waste, one of these will do just fine. The first pic is of the un-moded muffler with grease over the...

Stihl MS 362 - First report

I didn't touch that one last year when I yanked the cap on the H screw. The chain doesn't move when I'm at idle, I thought that's what the L screw was for. Why would you think the L screw is off? I should note the 'bearing noise' I mentioned sounds like a kids micro whistle on a matchbox car...

Stihl MS 362 - First report

After the saw sitting over the winter I have a colder weather review than my May/June operation (temps about 40F) . 1) The saw starts and runs fine - it does bog when just started cold if you go right to the throttle - but it doesn't do it once warm. It sounds like the brake is on, once warmed...

First time I picked up a saw since last fall

Walked it, the next one I have on the schedule is definitely bigger, I'm going to swap to the 20" bar for felling. This one also has an odd bend in it about chest height, almost like it had another tree across it when it was young. Rather than cutting below the bend, I'm going to work high...

First time I picked up a saw since last fall

 I love cutting trees, the whole thing, felling, limbing, bucking, carting it away; just a great time and beats the hell out of gym membership. I took down 1 pine today before the wind picked up (from the wrong direction). Probably just shy of 20" butt, I used the 16" bar anyway...

Is there a way to keep H screw from moving?

I heard about the issue with the MS362 after pulling the caps with the drywall screw. I used a thin strip of rubber inner tube, tucked in the hole against the screw - no issues, and easy enough to remove and re-install.

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

1HR OLD - MS 460 Magnum stihl ms 460 magnum chain saw Looks like a real nice saw - it's not in my budget, nor do I need anything bigger than my MS 362

Stihl dealer in northeastern MA or southern NH?

Chappell Tractor in New Hampshire, one in Milford (good store) one in Brentwood (never been). I bought my MS 362 at the Milford NH store, I also have my Kubota serviced there, they area also a Husky, Honda, etc... dealer. This is the one that kept selling out on a Stihl 16" bar on me - they...

    Stihl ms310 sparkplug stripped..

Helicoil for sure. I had a shop do the same thing to a snowblower years ago - of course they claimed it wasn't them. I did the helicoil and it lasted two heavy seasons before I sold the machine and never heard from the new owner of an issue.

Stihl MS361 a real ripper when you let it breath.

I'll have to do this to my MS 362, adding a port to the muffler is easy enough, I'll use a deflector and screen. Then, from what I gather, all I have to do is turn up the richness on the H screw. I already removed the limiter cap and made it richer from the first week I owned it, it was just...

    Stihl Dealers

Got my two chains and Bar today (from Ebay) - brand new, perfect, quick, cheap. The new RS chains are out, meaning labeled RS on the box but are RSC as the cutter is stamped with a C.

How old to use a chainsaw?

My son got the 500cc after 4+ years on the 90cc, he handles it very well (better than me). He stays on my property, I have a huge lawn (300'x300') and over 400yds of trails in the woods. I also supervise him while on it, as my daughter who is now 5, rides the 90cc. He's been watching this...

How old to use a chainsaw?

Great advice all - some more info My son has been riding quads since he was 5 (a 90cc) now he has a 500cc, he has been riding solo on his 550 snowmobile since last year. He has attention span (except in school - go figure), not quite sure if he grasps the danger though. It would...

How old to use a chainsaw?

My son who is 9.5 and has been playing football for 4 years now wants a saw. He spied a Stihl MS170 at the saw shop the other day, he picked it up and it doesn't seem too heavy for him (he can pick up my saw with no issues - not running). If your kids cut with you, when did they start? How...
