    Older Repairs.

Usually when I am wrenching.....and something doesn't want to cooperate.....one or two cold beers later I can fix that in a first try. Well sir, I tried this one time. The carburetor wound up in tiny pieces and no amount of gorilla glue could reassemble it. This is one reason that I have not...

    Older Repairs.

OK, So here we go. Now being at the tender ripe age of late mid 60's I have a bit of a trembling problem in both my hands. For minor work this is not an issue/problem. However I was putting a carburetor kit in my 028. All went smoothly until I had to put the spring beneath the lever that allows...

    Stihl ms311 too much compression.

How about the recoil rope binding on the spool. You loose all mechanical leverage when this happens thereby causing the necessary force to pull it over. Also, the rope may have been shortened and again loosing the mechanical leverage. A worn rope will narrow with time and use and the rope will...

    Brand Blindness

This individual was terminated a short time after our meeting. I still visit this dealer from time to time. I get 15% off parts being a disabled vet. And yes I do use Stihl parts when needed. Like replacing a oil pump on a 029 just recently.

    Brand Blindness

About three years ago I was in the market and was looking for a 50cc saw. I visited my local stihl dealer. The model I was looking at was the 271.I requested a RS chain and he went ballistic. telling me that he was not allowed to sell this chain because of the law. I told him he was full of it...

This is the older girl but she can Stihl dance.

    Need help on saw decision

Bailys has the cylinder and piston kit. I would find another dealer. For just over $125 you could get your saw back in action. BTW, I have had saws with less compression and they are still running fine.

    Chainsaw Pull Cord Not Pulling

How about the rope is worn and binding itself on the spool? Still cuts well? Then there is no no need to pull the muffler. With the plug removed there is no resistance and the rope works as designed. A possible crack on the rope pully could be a cause but this is a long shot.

Scoring and carbon on piston ok

I would use a quality oil mixed at 40/1 and run it. Otherwise the piston looks fine to me.

How about pulling it with the ignition switch off? This could tell you something!

    Husquvarna 455 Oil issue.

Okay, Here is the question. My new neighbor was cutting a tree with his 455. It sounds good. However when he was done I looked at the chain and it was as dry as popcorn. So I am wondering if it is safe to use an air chisel/hammer to free the clutch after I insert the rope into the cylinder. This...

    Stihl 025

Steve, I will not purchase any type of engine part from Ebay.I was burnt one before for over $175 and will not do this again. How do I know if the cylinder is better or worse than the one I have? I thank you for the thought. Ken

    Stihl 025

The scratch is above the intake port. Sorry no pictures. I have reason to suspect that this is the reason for my lower compression readings.

    Stihl 025

1 saw plan? I wish. I'm a victim of the CAD club. I do not rely on it heavily but it is used quite a bit on my 4 wheeler. Last count was 9 saws. 3 Echos, 1 Shindiawa, 1 Poulan 1Husky, 3 Stihls. Thanks for the information.

    Stihl 025

Okay, So my trusty 025 is about due for a set of rings. Compression is about 125 psi. My question is should I just put new rings bearings and seals or purchase a whole kit from HyWay. If I purchase the kit with the new cylinder that has a larger bore than the original, will I need new bolts to...
