    Twist Style Wedge

You are right on the money. I've been laughed at for using my 'Wood Grenade' for a few years now but it works in many instances. It's not good for everything and I still have a regular wedge but its definately a good usable tool. The narrow tapper at the point and the broad top make for a...

    Anybody tried this axe yet?

Yes! A friend of mine let me try his and it works very well. It was hard to beat the effectiveness for the money. I have wanted one for awhile now, would like to compare side by side with the fiskars version. For the price you won't be disappointed.

    Best Firewood Based on Aroma

I'll vote for black walnut! I can smell my wood pile from half way across the lawn with a good beeze. Smells just as nice burning, almost seems a little naughty burning a furniture wood.

    Michigan guys

Weather is looking horrible this morning. So much for that global warming crap! Time to bust out the Cub Cadet and go to work.

    splitting

I've got a chopper 1 that a friend gave me, all I had to do was put a handle on it. Not quite sure what it's nitche is yet, doesn't seem to bust the hard stuff like red oak and locust, does a good job with the black walnut though. The old narrow single bit still seems to get more done over...

    Good deal on a Lopi?

Good eye. I'm right at the limit at the back, 14" and I'm 1" illegal on the side at 32" from the side wall. I'll have to do some chimney tweaking to solve that though.

    Good deal on a Lopi?

Should be ready for testing today! Try and ignore my horrible grout job. :D I'm alreay planning upgrades; I don't like having several sections of pipe so I'm going to change that up a little next year.

    Wood grenade

I also have a wood grenade. It is not a good tool for wet wood, it does tend to pop right back out of the hole. If your wood is in decent shape though, it does a pretty good job and I have yet to get any splits or pieces to break off mine yet and that's after 4 years.

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

Ok, hold up, here's what I said earlier; "Fiskars in general make great stuff and I'm not knocking it a bit." I wasn't suggesting that there tool isn't superior for the job that it does, only that there choice in size has more to do with it's effectiveness, also as you mentioned in the third...

    Good deal on a Lopi?

I wish I were a stone mason! Here is a few of the stones that are going to be covering my hearth in the next few days. Been scrabling trying to get these things cut, finally had to buy a diamond saw blade to get the job done.

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

Is it really the design? Fiskars in general make great stuff and I'm not knocking it a bit. I was just wondering as I was reading this thread, though, is it Fiskars superior tool that is the secret or maybe that we are just trying a lighter tool for the job. Maybe that's why there standard...

    Good deal on a Lopi?

Thanks Tony. I'll try and get some pics of the new chimney that I installed. Just a little sanding and elbow grease, nothing fancy on the refinishing. Going to get material to start building the hearth area for it today. I really don't know what I'm doing to be honest, just been reading your...

    Good deal on a Lopi?

Update! Here's a few pics after a lot of sanding and painting. The stove is still a week or two away from being installed so I thought I would do a burn outside to bake the paint. Looking ok so far.

For the old timers like me! over 40 anyway.

My great uncle used to cut fire wood for a living and Homelite was his brand of choice for the most part. We still have the super xl at the farm, in blue, great saw for it's age. Still starts easy, has an 18" bar and plenty of grunt to get the job done and that even after countless hours and...

    Good deal on a Lopi?

I'm all for common sense and technoligy but some of the laws and rules that are getting passed are getting out of hand. I'd love to own a new stove it just not cost feasiable at the moment, maybe down the road. Maybe they'll say that I can't cut my wood with my old homelite due to it's age...
