Today may be the last day.

Same for me in the 10 years that I've been here. I told my wife the other day how crazy/funny it is that I'm building a fire and there's pollen blowing everywhere. Kevin

    Do I lose my mancard

Thanks Rick. I'm still doin' the firewood thing, just been busy with other stuff. Most recently I've started down the road of handguns...it's gonna get expensive! Kevin

    Do I lose my mancard

Perfect timing. I hadn't been here at AS for a while and thought I'd check in today. Finding this thread is perfect because tomorrow I need to noodle up some rounds for splittin' and it's been cooler (for here in Ar'kansas) the last few days (lows in the upper 20's to low 30's) so warming up the...

    Big wood or little wood?

I also gotta scrounge for wood, so I take what I can get...to a point. I don't have any wood handling equipment such as a tractor with a FEL, so I prefer up to about 18" (20" maybe) Oak where I can usually lift (carefully using my legs) up on the splitter. The ole 044 with a sharp chain does...

how much will a pickup hold

Thanks. What year model is it? Would you happen to know what gears it has (3.55 or 4.10)? Kevin

how much will a pickup hold

Nice truck! Would you mind posting the specs on that truck? It looks like it has the long box. Specs such as which year model, cab (CC or SC or reg), engine (guessing the 460), rear end gears, and transmission. Kevin

    To Big To Cut?

Some good advice and tips so far. As has been mentioned already...a SHARP chain is a must to get it done properly. It might seem a pain to stop and touch-up the chain...but it is well worth it. It'll also give your saw and yourself a break. SHARP chain! Kevin

Ladies and Gentlemen, listen up.This is a serious post and you all need to read it.

Wow. Just finished reading and skimming through this thread. Been busy with other stuff and not checking AS like I used to. Thanks Av for starting this thread (and all your past threads). I have taken note. Glad to hear that you're on the mend and it seems like the good Lord has got your...

Now I know what 2 cords of pure red oak weighs.

Good description of how they work. I have Timbrens on my F150 and like them alot. Kevin

    New truck and trailer?

Well, I guess I have access to that truck...but it's an hour away to get it. And to rent a dump trailer I'd have to go 1-1/2 hrs to 2 hrs to find one. I don't know if there would be that much wood (4 or 5 cord) available and I wouldn't have any place to store that much wood at one time. On my...

    New truck and trailer?

Good post! Your "good truck and trailer" and "ratings for 1/2 tons" comments are bang on! Yep, the old Ford has been good to me...as long as I look after it. In reality, cutting and fully loading by hand a 7K rated 77" or 83"x16' utility trailer by myself and then unloading by hand when I get...

    New truck and trailer?

New truck and trailer… ...yeah right Kevin. LOL! A friend of mine has a farm and has some dead hardwood that I can have. The trailer that I’m buying and fixing…is kinda on hold…money is being directed to more important things such as medical attention for my wife and other stuff. The car...

Hey wood cutting brothers, can you lend a hand?

A while back, a friend of mine got a similar email from a 'girl' who was in 'distress' and needed money and so on. He thought it fishy right from the get-go. He played along for a while by trying to get more info. The more he inquired, the more fishy the story got and eventually he quit messing...

    Poison ivy and firewood

Been way to busy to get out for a walk in the woods...but I wish I could. Next time I'm in town I'll probably just get the Tecnu I saw at Walgreens. Hand washing properly is a very good habit...I should probably be doing it more and keeping after my 3 yr. old to wash her hands properly. Kevin

    Poison ivy and firewood

I've done the hot water thing for temporary relief. Getting to the point, where the itch goes away while the hot water is on it, can almost drive me crazy! I guess the heat causes a reaction and the itch is sometimes unbearable for the few minutes. But it does work. Kevin

    Poison ivy and firewood

What I meant by ordering is I have seen Jewelweed that is processed into a cream/paste and also made into soaps on ebay or other places online. Thanks for the pics and info on what to look for in the woods. I haven't got into the poison ivy this year so far...and I hope I can spot it before...

    Poison ivy and firewood

I had forgotten about this thread that I started a few years ago. Good info still being shared! I haven't been into any of the nasty stuff lately, and I still haven't gotten any Jewelweed....I need to get some ordered! Kevin

An overlooked PPE item for woodsplitting

That's cool. I re-read your post and my post a bunch of times to see what the differences were in our descriptions. It could have very well been me having a 'moment'. Kevin
