Very nice. What did you have to do to rebuild it? I was thinking of picking up an older Hearthstone a couple of years ago because I really wanted a soapstone stove. I ended up passing because I figured I was better off getting a newer one when the time was right. Do you feel its that much...
Like that this thread has been resurrected.
2 years ago we bought a farm and moved the woodstove with us. Pic from the old house is on post #46. Our dog wasn't allowed in the room with the stove in the last house because we kept it as a more formal room. She suffered through 4 years of...
Hackberry very well could be it. That tree in the pic is bigger, but the bark on the left side looks very much like what I remember. I looked up other pics of it, and I think that's probably it.
If I buy the place, I'll try to remember to report back.
There are several trees on a property I'm looking at in SE PA near the Susquehanna River. Anyone have an idea what it is? This one is probably 12-18" DBH. The ridges are thick.
Thanks!
Nope, never did. I worked on enclosing the old damper area with the metal and insulation...but I was rushed and it didn't go well. I just said to heck with it and left it as is. Had too many other projects to worry about.
Funny this is coming back up though...because we're in rough...
I bought some rods and really don't like using them.
For the guys that use the rope or chain and pull down from the inside...how much stuff gets airborne inside the house?
Basically a direct competition for the Ripsaw XL4. The 5.5 HP Honda version of the Ripsaw comes in at $2825.
No doubt a beefier support system/track would be more ideal. I envision a uni-strut set up.
Is it just a direct drive set up? No clutch to disengage the blade?
The Lumber Smith Sawmill
Interesting. Never knew something like this existed. 5.5 HP isn't a lot of power, but I guess for portability it needs to stay light. Probably enough power for its intended purpose.
I like the concept. $2000 seems like a good price range too...
If memory serves me correctly, that side of the white oak was hit by 2 other large red oaks when they blew over in a storm about 2.5 years ago. Our neighbor clear cut his entire back portion of his property. This is exposed the trees quite a bit to say the least.
No fertilizer and/or...
I would agree, but only to a certain extent. Several of the trees are in areas where the equipment never went to. The brush clearing was done by me and that was 4 years ago. I did it by hand and with a compact tractor when it was dry and the ground wasn't soft.
Either way, if it is soil...
I'll do the best I can to explain the situation and provide as many pictures as I can. We've lived at this property for 4 years now. It was in neglected shape when we moved in. We've spent a good bit of time and $ on clean up and tree work. I'm getting pretty discouraged as we seem to...
I have a 455 and I've cut A LOT of wood with it. Never an issue what so ever. Great saw. I've cut through 36"+ white oak logs with it and its done well. For a heavy duty occasional use saw, not sure there's a better deal out there.
Not mine, but thought someone on here may want this.
