    2 x 4's In The Fireplace

I just got a load of "cut offs" from the local truss company. All 2 x 4 scraps. Some have gotten split up for kindling, some have gone in to kick up the fire. It is good stuff. No problems burning them for me.

    Fire Brick

Doing my spring cleaning, chimney, inside the stove etc. Looks like after 2 years I am going to have to replace the fire brick. All but 3 were cracked, and those seem brittle. Anyway, I checked TSC and they are 5 bucks a piece so at 16 bricks, that's 80 bucks. Does that seem right? Are there any...

Don't Complain If You Are Too Lazy To Help Yourself

I put up with the heat and cut and split a LOT in the summer, as I can get in an out. Ya it gets sweaty, but nasty days in the winter, like today, I can kick back and enjoy the fire, too, and not worry about running out. I do the same. I actually lost weight last summer, (not a bad thing)...

Don't Complain If You Are Too Lazy To Help Yourself

A friend of mine called me Saturday and asked me if I had any extra seasoned wood. ( he ran out). I reminded him that I have asked him repeatedly to come out and cut with me. I cut up lots of dead and down from my woods this winter that burned just great. (lots left out there too) I asked him to...

    RR tie cut offs

I get them from a local mill. They are white oak, untreated chunks around 10 x10. They charge 15 bucks for all you can load in your pick up, trailer, etc. I have spent 45 bucks the last two years on 3 loads. Once they have seasoned for a bit, they burn great. I will keep some of it on hand as...

    This March/Last March

Last year on my birthday, 3/17, it was 81 degrees. I too let the wood supply get low in the house thinking we would get a warming trend.. Big mistake. I re loaded on Sunday and I am glad I did. High of 29 here today with 20 mph winds. They are calling for a storm on Sunday night as well. I...

    Big score on huge ash!

Very nice! Love that stuff, powersplitting, makes you feel 20 years younger! Agreed. Didn't have any last burning season. This year I have burned quite a bit, plus I have about 10 cords seasoning in stacks, with another 3 plus waiting to be split and stacked. I'm a believer.

a little work before the snow

Good wood! Tip them rounds over sideways to noodle, like 1/4 or less the time and work. I did it the hard way until I became addicted to this site. Great tip!!!

    alum cans and creosote

Been doing it since I read that thread. Since it looks like spring may be coming here soon, I am curious as to what my chimney will look like. Since we have 10 cent deposit on our cans here, If it works, it will only cost me about a buck a week to keep it clean. Maybe have to look into a cheaper...
