    Fireplace insert question

You can install a noncombustible material beyond the existing hearth to bring the stove out. Also, insulate the damper/smoke shelf in the masonry chimney so heat goes out rather than up. I had our masonry chimney insulated at the top so all the chimney in the house acts as a heat sink. Its...

Anyone using bulk (1/3rd cord) firewood bags?

I tried it.... Heres what I found. Production speeds up. For me, that's where it ends. Storing them takes up more room than stacking. The loops on the bottom of the bags aren't strong enough to dump after sitting out for a season. They work when the bags are new, but that doesn't help. Even...

Do they make the MS261 without the Mtronic?

Depending on dealer stock..... Stihl isn't producing any M Tronic saws currently because the wiring looms come from Ukraine.

cant get chips instead of sawdust while cutting

Ive noticed a chip size difference between white oak, and other species such as beech and hickory. All using the same chain. The oak chips are much smaller. I dont have experience with red oak.

    Trouble with new stove

The Jotul Rockland is the same way, its main air supply is an air wash over the glass but there is a single "jet" centrally located at the front bottom of the firebox. Block it and getting a new load going is futile. I always rake coals to the front making sure to not block the opening.

    Trouble with new stove

I mean, when stove manufacturers start suggesting moisture levels to the tenth, then you can come and stand on your soap box. 15-25% is a wide enough range that even the cheapest meter, on a fresh split, will be accurate enough to hit that target.

    Trouble with new stove

You're attacking a straw man. Not a single person here has advocated using a moisture meter on the outside of a seasoned piece of wood. yet you insist on winning your own argument by laying a foundation no one has suggested. Are you technically correct, yes. But you're arguing against yourself.

    Trouble with new stove

Thats why the correct way to measure moisture in firewood is on a fresh split. In fact, youll see this mentioned everywhere on this forum as well as other forums that discuss firewood. There are moisture meters designed for all sorts of materials, not just wood.

Commercial splitter but no conveyor - looking for suggestions to improve efficiency

The box wedge does introduce that level of complexity and production at the same time. If your ultimate goal is the split right where you stack, I would think focusing on making moving the splitter easier would be more beneficial.

Commercial splitter but no conveyor - looking for suggestions to improve efficiency

Prior to having a conveyor, and even with the conveyor, I split into a wagon. First was an EZ trail 260 and now into a 248 because that's what the 570 likes to pull. Just toss splits into the wagon and go stack. You could always look into fabricating a dolly of sorts so it carries the weight of...
