In all fairness, there other makers than the ones mentioned above. I use a HAAS knee ascender. But the SAKA is probably just as good. Kiwi Klimbers also has a ascender to be mounted on the spikes. A bit different but all good. I just prefer the CT Quickstep that Mike uses on the Powerscender.

I'm 54 and climbing has never been more fun than now. All the new shiny gizmos like Bulldog Bone, Rope Runner, ascenders mounted on the spikes.... Heck, I've never been in better shape than now. We'll, it feels like it anyhow...... :surprised3:

    Foot ascender gaff set up

I Climb on Carbon Geckos. I guess adding a foot ascender on those would be a bad idea? Anybody who has tried it?

    Hitch cord question..

I guess its a personal choice. I have tried Schwabisch, Distal and Michoacán and climbed a lot with them. But I in the end I realized that the VT was the best for me. Tends really easy and grabs instantly. But then again, with the wrong rope and hitch cord combo, or maybe incorrectly tied, I...

    Hitch cord question..

Whats with the Blue Craze and the Ocean Poly combo? I have a Hi Vee from New England, and it does not work that well with Ocean poly either. The Ocean Poly grabs like a SOB and is hard to brake the VT...

    Spur Climbing

If you are too close to the stem it is easier to gaff out. So you should not be "hugging the stem" so to speak. It is also hard to to do any saw work if youré too close.

Friction hitches. Which one to use for different situations

No braid on the VT? Any special reason?

Friction hitches. Which one to use for different situations

Really? Last I checked the Zig Zag was to be used for DRT only? A Hitch climber pulley with a VT works for me. Like the idea that you can add it midline.... Not possible with the zig.. But the Unicender looks promising. Midline attachable also.

Throw Rope - VERY basic questions

+1 on the PPE. Dead (hopefully small) branches can snap easily, and you do not want that in yer head without a helmet/hard hat.

    Russian tree climbing gaffs

My first par of gaffs was something similar to these but with only one spike. I used them. Twice...... It was a nightmare to climb with. Constant pain in the calves. I bought a pair of Carbon Geckos after that. Some difference.....

Backup (non TIP) anchors for newbie Spur climbing

Yep, It´s a bit scary when you're high up on spikes on a thin trunk. Kicking out with only your lanyard could mean a ride sometimes. You can use your friction/cambium saver and choke it around the trunk, together with your climbing rope. If you kick out and loose your foothold, it will grab...
