    272 or 372

If you can get a 272 that looks like this for $300-400 then go 272, otherwise go 372. Parts for a 272 will always be available but 372s will always be smoother, this is from a happy 272 owner

So what did you get for Christmas that was chainsaw related?

I got a fuel tank vent for my 15 year old 272XP and she runs great now. Runs better than new thanks to Brad:rock:

272 build from a 61 with some porting and blueprinting.

I dont have any useful advice but I am bumping back to the top so someone else might be able to point you in the right direction

    Small Homelite - EZ?

If its a Super EZ pick it up, if not I would pass. The older EZ's are good runners but not special like the Super

    Craftsman 5.2/30"

Would this place happen to have a 2100 Husqvarna or 090 Stihl for rent with an option to buy?

    20 to 24 on 372xp

You only notice it when the whole bar is buried. Look at the bright side you wont have to bend over quite as far when bucking.

    What is high hours?

Properly maintained diesels can easily go over 10000 hours with just regular maintenance. Usually you can tell the condition of the engine by examining the rest of the machine.

    Gas/Diesel

Never run gasoline in a modern diesel, even in small amounts. Diesel is a much better lubricant than gasoline is, and diesel is the only thing that lubricates the fuel pump internals and injector internals. Diesel fuel pumps have very, very tight tolerances in order to build the many thousands...

    Crank Seals

If your crank seal is leaking the saw will always be lean, even with the carb maxxed out

Are we in the golden era....

Unfortunately when saws were made in America they were heavy, slow, and tough. American companies did not innovate so they are gone now. For me the golden age will always be the 80's and 90's, not the smoothest saws but very dependable, simple, powerful, light, and the baddest sounding saws ever...

    090 vs 088 stihl

Lol I hope the guy has made up his mind by now

How often should chain bars be flipped? :dunno:

Its a little harder to keep track of when you are using 4-5 saws at the same time like I do, but every 5 hand filings or so I flip em

    Best skidding tongs

Yup, anything under a hundred bucks is a joke. After wasting time and money on them I do all my skidding with a choke chain and home made log boom for the 3pt on my tractor. I only have to get off the tractor once to hook the chain vs the 20 times the tongs drop the logs on the way.

Why does my 920 destroy my mt8200?

Just mod the mufflers on both and be sure to point the exhaust in a direction that it will not burn your hands when you are milling.

    Husky 262XP

The 257 is a turd compared to the 262XP, but probably a decent saw for firewood under 10". A 254XP Jug/piston would make it a lot more fun for limbing and just about everything else.

Why does my 920 destroy my mt8200?

Compared to the Johnny 920, a saw designed in the 70's to never see more than 10000 rpm, I bet that Efco has a lot more aggressive timing, thats my point. Compared to a Dolmar 7900, you are probably right, the Efco would look pretty tame

    Husky 262XP

The 365 killed the 362 IMO, not the 372. Why pay more for a saw with less or similar performance, less grunt, fewer cubes, and the same weight? Matt you answered your own question, if the 362 was so great why put a big bore kit on it? I understand you did it because you got a deal on the saw...
