What was the first chainsaw you ran?

First saw that I used was a homelite super 2 of my dad's. I was 13 at the time.

Start cutting front or back of woods?

When I was in the business, it was myself a cable skidder and saws. On the rare occasions that I did have an operator, we would walk the property and see where we should start. Easier to work with the timber lay than against it. We had started in the middle of some tracts and at a far corner...

Will need to update my screen name

Bought a house 3 years ago with wood burner for supplemental heat, didn't like paying the delivery charges for the wood. Friend is culling trees that didn't survive all of the grading and excavation work around his new house. That turns out to be right around 30 +/- trees that range from 10in...

Will need to update my screen name

Well, after being out of cutting for more than 6 years, I now have a saw again. When I had my logging business I used them all and always liked the orange saws. Well there isn't an orange dealer close and I have now become the owner of a new 460 Mag. Also bought a FC70 trimmer from same...

Edelbrock 650 -vs- Holley 650 carburetors??

Go with the holley. Parts are everywhere, sort like a small block chevy. Probably buy a power valve at the darn liquor store. Trick parts galor also. Look at demons too, same stuff as holley just better large parts right from the get go. Most of the large parts if not all are billet aluminum...

How did you come up with your user name?

Mine was from the last batch of saws that I bought for logging. Mike (which is me) and 385xp. bought 4 and have none now. I have stopped logging and moved into the world of getting real money for what I do. I do miss the freedom but hated the hassle. Will be buying a new saw soon since I...

Who have been saved by their chain brake?

I have been saved from harm many times because of a chainbrake. Mostly when bucking up behind my skidder. Not many times actually in the woods and felling though. You don't necessarily have to contact something with the tip. You can also have a kick out or back when the chain is still...

    stupid question

I was in the timber industry and now out of it. Own business and crew, so I would suggest some kind of tramp stamp with the words "insert dry penis here" with and arrow pointing down. :) In all seriousness though I second or third the baileys coat of arms.

    Question About Husky 385xp/390xp

Hello, When I was contract cutting my last saws were 385s. I loved them always had 372s before that but wanted a little more omph without too much weight. I liked the saws alot, carried a 24in bar in hardwood excellent. The majority of what I used to cut was black cherry, oaks, hickory...

    Attn. all timber fallers....

Well, when I was in it full time, I use stihl, husky, jonnies and even poulan pro 650s. As far as I am concerned, they are all good as long as they start in the morning and keep going througout the day. Fav though is husky 372/385. 385 was last saw I owned when I was contract cutting and...

    ford 300-6 carb question

There were alot of those engines in Gardner Denver compressors also. Try a large compressor shop or an industrial engine shop. Sorry can't be more precise.

    Which used diesel truck?

Early dodges', leaf sprung and with an engine that only requires 12v only to turn the fuel soleniod on. How can you go wrong? With and engine that you can get parts for at either, auto parts or farm parts stores, I mean we are talking functional.

    Which used diesel truck?

Older 12V cummins, period. Dodge unfortunately, but hey they went with a truly proven design. That engine has been in darn near anything industrial. Of course, just my two cents. Mike

what is the best fuel to run !

Very well put. Nitro is also creates toxic fumes that is the reason for the gas masks in the old dragstrer photos. My mower is just a toy and I have a regular one, I would never play with the stuff if it was a working tool. Sorry to hijack the thread. I will quit now. Mike

what is the best fuel to run !

Yeah mowing my grass is kinda difficult, that stuff smells good burning for like a minute then it really gets old. I found a company selling 99.9% nitro and was thinking of mixing it with methanol myself and that way I could delete the castor oil. In a chainsaw what kind of oil do you use...

what is the best fuel to run !

Well this doesn't have anything to do with saws but.... I have a 3.5hp 22in push mower that I have running on 30% nitro RC fuel. I don't know why i did it but I did it. LOL Runs really strong especially through tall grass. I got the fuel given to me so I had 3 gallons of it laying around...

Rear Mount or Front Mount Log Loader

My brother in law drove a pete with a 575 cat in it and a rear mount loader and had to keep the tag down just to stay in the seat. Rode like hell. I personally would put it behind cab, that is just that though my opinion. The one on the rear was for loading single axles on the landings. Also...
