Got a saw with a scored piston...

First things first. Find out why the piston bit the dust. If you've got an air leak, no amount of fairy dust or magic elixir will help. Continuing to run a saw that is not in proper order will only hasten its demise and possibly put you at risk.

Which way to file?~~~~Out or In?

If you can file into the cutter, great. Many, like me, can't seem to overcome the chatter this causes and just get by filing outward. Some say that you actually "smear" the chrome into the cutter (making a more durable edge) when you file out-to-in, but I just don't buy that.

Troy-Bilt denies ever hearing about Splitter Cylinder Failure

That ain't no lie. If you over-spec and under utilize, you could be OK. If, however, you use the equipment up to it's rated and advertised capacity, you've got problems. That's NOT the way it's supposed to work! Who has never stalled their splitter on occasion? Who never gets to the second...

    Bar paint?

I just use the Stihl Grey from the dealer. Prep is everything - use lots of paint thinner or other "clean" solvent, prime, sand, wipe, paint, sand, paint etc. - I like to hang mine over my woodburner and "bake" for a day or so, too. Make sure to de-booger your oil holes when you're done.

    Bar Reconditioning

How much "conditioning"? True the rails? Replace nose? Close rails? Is there anything you can do yourself? I don't think there's much to these that's unique to them, just basic mechanics and metal working - make everything straight, square, smooth and true. One can do a lot with a properly...

    Got screwed on craiglslist

I dunno about the not being able to be screwed on CL. Were OP to JB-weld a crank nut in place and flip it, knowing the saw was less than 100% but portraying it as 100%, would he not be screwing the new buyer? Even if new buyer looked and saw the nut "in place" and even starting the saw...

No hole to grease bar tip on ms290??

Current wisdom is that the nose sprocket is lubricated by bar oil. Grease is not needed, gets flushed out anyway, and has the potential to hold crud that oil tends to push out. Just run it.

military trailer electrical help 24v to 12v conversion

I doubt you'll find any color coding - military puts aluminum tags on each wire indicating circuit number - get the tech manual for your model and you'll be set. The 24V system has double volts but half the amps as an "equal" 12V circuit. you may want to install LED bulbs or go to bigger...

Please help this guy out, lost chainsaws...

Remember they just fell out of a truck... Story still sounds fishy to me, one would think that a guy with that class of equipment would be a bit more on the ball than to lose all 3 out of his truck. I smell a rat (or just a dumbass with more $$ than sense).
