OMG, you'd think that somebody who has been appointed to be a mod would know how to use the internet........ Treestuff.com web page that shows a whole bunch of Silky saw stuff that are rebranded by Notch.... https://www.treestuff.com/search/search-results/?search_query=+Silky+pole+saw And...

if you had one handsaw to carry…,

What you said was this- The Notch saws are aluminum bodied, made by Silky and sold here under contract by Notch. So, Silky does still sell the saws and replacement blades here. The only difference is they got somebody else to put their name on them to avoid whatever legal issues they thought...

If you are using the saw for landscaping and pruning, find yourself a Silky Yamabico. It has a primary cutting edge of 5 TPI, but also has a section of 8 tpi on the back for fine undercutting to prevent tear-outs.

Groundman Basic Knowlege at 3 months

There is no "theoretical way" to do tree work. Reading about doing it in no way prepares you for the reality of actually doing it. Know-it-alls come and go all the time. Every one that I have seen talked a big story but not a one could actually do the work when asked to..... Have you ever even...

Groundman Basic Knowlege at 3 months

You can assume anything you want, but that doesn't make you any more correct. You have zero experience and you have no idea what goes on in the real world. Everything looks good and easy on Youtube...... Nothing "depends on the business". There are rules and regulations that everyone should...

Improving Saw Maintenance in the field and between jobs - what has worked for you?

Buy a box of decent files and some Husky filing guides, and learn how to use them. Having a grinder at the shop isn't going to do you any good if you need some chains sharpened on the job. If you are going to run a saw, you really should know how to maintain it properly and be able to sharpen a...

PRO Hedge Trimmer- Single or Double sided

That single sided cutter is pretty much useless unless you are just trimming last weeks growth of leaves on the hedge. If you want to do some actual hedge trimming, as in a year or more of growth, you'll need the larger double sided trimmer.

    Fire burned forest redwoods

I don't see any problems there. Redwoods are designed by nature to survive fires. The bark is more or less fireproof, and even if the leaves get burned they will survive. I wouldn't worry about it unless the fire actually burned into the base, creating hollows that would weaken the tree. Leave...

    Chinese puzzle to cut?

I would not worry too much about those smaller trees that may or may not be supporting that tree. If you go mucking around with them the whole thing might come down on you. Simplest and easiest thing to do would be cut the cherry trees off at the bottom and drag them out one at a time. Remember...

"Theoretical work"? What is that? You either have practical experience or you don't......Some things you just can't learn from a Youtube video. Its like trying to learn how to swim by reading about it. You just won't get it until you do it. You are making things up, assuming that everything is...

Groundman Basic Knowlege at 3 months

Radios are expensive toys. There is about a 100% chance that a radio head set will last less than a couple weeks before getting sucked into a chipper, stepped on, smashed by a branch or otherwise broken or lost by a groundie. Work zones tend to be quite loud, so hearing a radio might be...

Groundman Basic Knowlege at 3 months

Is that what some book says? A good ground person is always looking up when somebody is in the tree, and knows what to do when the guy doing the cutting needs something done.... I've worked with many of the major "established business" in my area, and nobody has ever used radios...... not that...

How do I find the owner of the trees?

Somewhat what? What does a burger cook have to do with anything? Do you have any experience at all that qualifies you to do any sort of landscaping or tree work? I hope you don't think some kid with beat-up truck is going to waltz in and step all over established contracts with property...

Groundman Basic Knowlege at 3 months

Something that is often overlooked or just ignored is work zone safety. Your guys should know about using proper PPE - high viz vests, helmets, gloves, hearing protection, saw cut protection etc - and should have basic traffic control training. If you are doing any work that involves...
